My previous latest ever Buff-tip was 21st August 1985, so very late! #teammoth

A surprising 61 species in St Mellion last night (despite running fewer traps). A few late species: D. angustiorana (Red-barred Tortrix), 2 E. angustana, N. angustella, 2 O. semirubella, Flounced Chestnut, Merveille du Jour, Buff-tip, Swallow-tailed Moth, Gold Spot & Beautiful Hook-tip #teammoth

Thoughts please #teammoth! Is this a large female Turnip or a Pearly Underwing? Dagger markings seem much reduced, and antennae unfeathered.

10/24 in a cold clear Marbury this morning 1 NFY with 2 November Moth aggs. I expected some green from Merveille du Jour but not from a Light Emerald. Apparently they can have a 2nd gen but mostly in the south. Also Beaded Chestnuts, Red-line Quaker, Black Rustics, Barred Sallow. #teammoth

The annual lonely Palpita vitrealis
And a White-point were the most interesting moths to the lamp (for me) lately…
Black Rustic, Barred Sallow, Least Carpet and L-album also visited

88/20 in Hunstanton, nothing new. The Convolvulus HM* had left the wall but returning indoors we found it perched on our curtains! Safely removed! Found on bench this morning.

Also a late E flammealis-(Rosy Tabby)*, 2 Clancy's*, Least Cpt, RDP*, D/Back, 2 Sm M W etc. #teammoth #norfolkmoths

Feathered Thorn and an attractive pink-blushed Large Wainscot from last night, both NFY.
Both arrived before 9:30pm with very little else arriving thereafter.

Despite rapidly sinking temperatures I managed 18:12, with Green-brindled Crescent (thanks to @marburybirds.bsky.social 😉 ), Blair’s Shoulder-knot & November Moth agg. (earliest garden record) NFY. Also a second Deep-brown Dart. #teammoth @pmandrews1973.bsky.social

stay tuned, #teammoth. raccoons, beetles and a dragonfly so far. could be a great night, or a total dud.

@minifauna.bsky.socialOct 4, 2026, 7:21 AM

rearranged, made a makeshift barricade. then a HUGE dragonfly shows up!

I don't see dragonflies here! at freshwater ponds, sure. but in dry, hot October, at my place?!

#teammoth #dragonfly #facesofelnino

an enormous green darner dragonfly perched on a white canvas, in front of an LED blacklight

its wings are fully outstretched, revealing the intricate veination. it has a chunky green body, huge eyes, and a light blue circular mark on its headsame dragonfly at a different angle, the flash of the camera making the insect appear metallic

I watered the yard & put out a bowl for them. 2 of 4 had a drink.. and then knocked it over & ran off with the bowl!

moved the sheet from yard to deck, then set a camera to alert me if the 🦝 came upstairs.

5 minutes later...

was out fiddling with the bug sheet and discovered I had an audience!

Another slightly underwhelming moth trap on Blakeney Point, with just 47:15. Red-line Quaker was my 750th species of the year, but the show was stolen by the two pinkest Vestals I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately the second had fled the trap overnight so couldn’t be properly papped. #TeamMoth
