@stevewestenra.bsky.social#SongsofSeptember Day 21:
I've said before, but if TETK were adapted as something, it would be a musical!
The main character is a singer/actor involved in musical theatre whose career has taken a downturn & who's dealing with a dying confidence in his ability to make it.
The storyline of the book
@glwalkerauthor.bsky.socialNothing too out of the norm, but in the Brynn story they come across an old museum with even older things in it, one of which was piano-like. So my guess is that it probably sounded more like a harpsichord
@stevewestenra.bsky.social#SongsofSeptember Day 20:
Eeee! So hard to choose (TETK has a few climactic scenes in succession). "The Ecstasy of Gold" makes a prominent appearance, but I'll go with Blackwell's cover of "Come As You Are," for a confrontation between the protag + antagonist
@stevewestenra.bsky.social#SongsofSeptember Day 19: Platonic group song
Ooo! This is one of my favourites (originally the closing theme from the Canadian kids' cartoon, The Raccoons): link.deezer.com/s/34tgilkvKf...
(the original isn't on Deezer, so this is a cover!)
Big Discovery Bang vibes
@stevewestenra.bsky.social#SongsofSeptember Day 18: Joke Song
My partner added a RuPaul song to my TWoA playlist as a joke and I kept it! 🤣
For TETK, "Baby One More Time" (Britney Spears) is pretty jokey & features prominently throughout the book, blasting from speakers on the island
@stevewestenra.bsky.social#SongsofSeptember Day 17: Side Character
A very prominent side character (or secondary character) performs Rihanna's "Umbrella"!: link.deezer.com/s/34tg3rRn9c...
A number of songs from The Rocky Horror Picture Show would also fit the same character ☂️🌂
One of the most fun characters to write, ngl
@stevewestenra.bsky.social#SongsofSeptember Day 16: Spoilery song
VERY hard to do this one without being *too* spoilery, so how about "Moonlight Desires" by Gowan? Gowan features somewhat prominently on the playlist for REASONS 🤣
@chancemorgan.bsky.socialDEAD BEATS is set in the USA, and so all the music is real songs and real instruments.
Among the instruments that appear are the cast’s singing voices, Chuck’s bass guitar, a live brass band, and the harmonica Seymour acquires at a Texas thrift store.
@primas99.bsky.social#SongsOfSeptember Day 22
I’ll be 100% honest, I haven’t given that too much thought for either of my stories. I imagine there will, but to what degree and extent I can’t say right now. Definitely something to think on going forward 🤔
@stevewestenra.bsky.social#SongsofSeptember Day 15: What do you listen to
I listen to my writing playlists for particular stories. 🤣Boring answer, I'm sorry!
I've shared the TETK one already, so here's my playlist for For One Night Only (its sequel). It's not a great playlist: link.deezer.com/s/34tfOfMgOf...
(too long!!)
@stevewestenra.bsky.social#SongsofSeptember Day 14: Musical - Villain Song
Ahhhh. Again, so many. There are a few actual musical songs on their playlist (Tim Curry's "Toxic Love" + "Touch-a-Touch-a-Touch Me"), but I'll go with The Cardigans' "Lovefool," which has the write vibe, I think: link.deezer.com/s/34tfxWm63C...
@stevewestenra.bsky.social#SongsofSeptember Day 13: Emotional Scene
My MC in The Erstwhile Tyler Kyle (the story I'm doing this for) does sing at various points in the book. This maaaaay be one of the songs 👀: link.deezer.com/s/34tfpni8EW...
Lissie's cover of "Go Your Own Way" is the specific version I was imagining
@acturek.bsky.social“Letra-song rolled like a mist over the tapestry of sound woven by the king’s musicians, and Rushak’s sang the highest, now in harmony, now one with the princess’s voice, its sound carrying as far as that of a harp much larger.”
Described below. Here’s vibe.

Bitter Old Man by Ramshackle Glory
"I swear to god I'm gonna die full of naive optimism" and "I always wanted to die young/Now I feel younger every day and I just hope I die younger than I am" go hard for me.
@stevewestenra.bsky.social#SongsofSeptember Day 12: Sad couple song
Oof! I have a few.
This one I associate with a set of particularly dark moments to do with romantic feelings involving two characters (yes, that's a tortured way to put it, haha): link.deezer.com/s/34tfaQnslo...
"In This Shirt" - The Irrepressibles
@stevewestenra.bsky.social#SongsofSeptember Day 11: Song added just for the vibes
There are a few, but I'll say "Hurdy Gurdy Man" by Donovan. It's one of those songs that ends up in basically every period true crime/horror movie just on the basis of vibes & an accidentally sinister vibe 🤣
@seffydv.bsky.social#SongsOfSeptember 22
I try to include cultural instruments wherever possible, especially in my playlists! One of my favorite examples is Ithara, a multicultural nation of Ghanaian, Persian, Punjabi, and Arab inspiration, producing music like this when their traditions are mixed:

I guess I can answer this one with 'a special sound'? lol Winter's Wrath is a metalcore band, and the lead singer, Brave, feels like something is missing for them to level up.
He meets a violinist busking and after hearing him play the band's music, decides they need him.
