Kuniyoshi was an artist who loved to show blood and gore along with violence and animated expressions in his prints – all presented in bright colors. Kuniyoshi brings the drama! “Poem by Dainagon Tsunenobu” is actually a story about the poet (Dainagon) and not the poem. Dainagon Tsunenobu was a statesman, musician and calligrapher as well as a poet. The story was that, as he was composing a poem about autumn in a humble study, he saw an apparition of some sort (he could not tell what type) outside his window. The spirit/demon was 15 feet tall and had hair “growing the wrong way”. The spirit recited an autumn poem in Chinese to the poet: [translation] Before the stars of the Big Dipper a line of traveling geese;/ Under the moon above Soth Tower the fulling of winter clothes”. Dainagon’s poem, written above: [translation] When the evening comes,/ From the rice leaves at my gate,/ Gentle knocks are heard,/
Enters autumn’s roaming breeze. Kuniyoshi’s apparition appears quite menacing, but the poet does not seem terribly concerned. I would not be so composed if I saw such a beast outside my window.

A three quarters overhead view of the building base showing a selection of Japanese post-town buildings in a scenic setting. Lots of greenery, shrubs etc are shown along with a couple of bases of 15mm ashigaru (Honda and Sanada clans) about to duke it out on the street.
Obviously there are no civvies around as that would be silly.
