Excerpt from E.M. Anderson's MarthaWIP:
A disembodied voice rasped at her, crackling like a badly tuned radio. Get out.
Martha’s heart hammered, but she cleared her throat and said grumpily, “What d’you think I’m trying to do? It’s you what’s locked me in here.”
A long pause in which the only sound was her teeth chattering in the chill.
Then the voice rasped, with an air of annoyance, Never getting out.

The hand retreated, but invisible fingers gripped her shoulder a moment later. Martha twisted toward them, trying to shake salt at them, but her shoulders were stiff these days and she couldn’t get the right angle. With an echoing cackle, the fingers dug into her. Ripped through her shirt, clawed down her back. Her skin split and bled.
“Mother,” Martha said emphatically, “fucker.”
