Wow. That’s sad. #TheNoirCollective #TheLostWeekend

Doris Dowling as Gloria

Like Wyman & Terry, she saw #TheLostWeekend as her big break, and like Da Silva, she went right into The Blue Dahlia. When her career stalled, she moved abroad, securing leads in ‘Bitter Grapes’ and ‘Othello.’ She ultimately became a staple of network TV. #TheNoirCollective

Howard da Silva sighting!
The cast for #TheLostWeekend certainly doesn't lack.

If you are, then I'm a parking lot puddle because I will zoom in on the clothes, chairs, artwork, drawer pulls, doorknobs, mantels, you name it!

Howard Da Silva as Nat

The original Jud in Oklahoma! and Ben Franklin in 1776 (a role he reprised on film), he was a well-loved character actor (and noir staple) in the ‘40s. Then Robert Taylor testified to HUAC that Da Silva was “disruptive,” and he was blacklisted for a decade. #TheNoirCollective

I grew up surrounded by drunks so I was a bit of a prig about drinking.
I’ve loosened up in my old age but
I do know that there’s not much you can do for someone who doesn’t want to stop drinking.

Exteriors were shot in NYC in Oct 1944, then the cast spent two months on the Paramount lot. This set, “Nat’s,” so resembled a NYC bar that homesick New Yorker Robert Benchley – filming at nearby RKO – walked onto the set daily at 5 PM and poured himself a bourbon. #TheNoirCollective #TheLostWeekend

Great idea! Some of the tropes from the classic list don't really apply here.

Pretty sure my first taste of Miland was in Survival Run, a great(IMO) 'B' action film from 1979 w/Peter Graves and Vincent Van Patton. It was on one of those 'free HBO' weekends they used to do on cable a couple times a year. #thenoircollective

Don’s on his 8th secret bottle of rye already and I’m still over here marveling at all the knowledge dropped in the pre-show.

Wilder grew interested in adapting Jackson’s semi-autobiographical novel after co-authoring ‘Double Indemnity’ with an alcoholic Raymond Chandler and watching him self-destruct. Wilder made the film in great part to try to “explain Chandler to myself.” #TheNoirCollective #TheLostWeekend
