Have a great day ☀️

#SFFChat A4:
I don’t think so, unless you count adding science fiction elements and fantastical magic elements to Slice of Life is a twist

@thirdmonti.bsky.socialSep 18, 2026, 11:38 AM

#SFFChat A3: whichever one you can read cover to cover and enjoy.
I’m not gonna tell someone they can’t DNF Asimov’s The Caves Of Steel if they aren’t vibing, and I’m not telling anyone they can’t DNF A Game Of Thrones if they aren’t vibing

#SFFChat A2:
I think Sci-Fi has at the base a technology that is advanced that does not exist contemporaneously even if the story takes place contemporaneously, like in The Terminator

For fantasy I would say magic is a strong indicator (whether it’s necessary 🤷‍♂️ )

#SFFChat intro & A1
Hi I’m Monti needing coffee

Elements considered fundamental/foundational, the English language since it’s the language I write in.

I’m not masterful enough in either French or Italian to write a nice prose or poetry, but they would be, as English is, the fundamental base too

#SFFChat A3: I stopped following must-read lists bc our reasons for working in our genres might be v different. I find personal faves serve better for building process foundations.

Wrt the classics, my faves include LeGuin's Earthsea (Tomb and Tehanu) & Butler's Earthseed series (Talents)

#SFFChat A2: For me and SpecFic, adding impossible elements to something maybe based in concrete reality, then shaping that in ways that expand its potentiality as concept, idea, sensation or movement.

Idk if that made sense (so tired rn) but my brain agrees with it so let's go with that.

Thanks so much.

Yes, here's the link for Parch Marks, which came out earlier this month.

Been a while #SFFChat! Will answer a few of these while waiting for dinner.

I'm an artist-writer. Sensorial realities, including visual language/imagery/symbolism, and emotional momentums are what often seed ideas into rooted projects and WIPs for me.

I don't kid myself I'm groundbreaking, lolsob. I guess the focus on how history relates to the future might be one of my specialities.

@anna-orridge.bsky.socialSep 18, 2026, 11:04 AM

I don't think I'm qualified to judge for the entire SFF block, but certainly Ursula K Leguin and Octavia Butler are foundational for me personally.

Okay. Subgenre - cli fi.
It's speculative musings about how climate change will affect the natural word and us - as individuals and our societies.

Hi I'm Anna, I write across the SFFH spectrum. I guess if I have a cornerstone, something that runs like a thread through all my work, it would be justice. #SFFChat

Thanks for hosting the space.

Promo-wise, for Short Story September, I wrote a cozy short story "Cookies for a Dragon," where a dwarven baker delivers cookies to a dragon in a dungeon.

Part parody, but also has some relatability I mentioned earlier. Like Lacei's bitchy neighbor
