An oak with a very wide trunk that splits off in two directions. The bark is deeply gnarled, there are many upright branches and green leaves. It rests in a layer of dried leaves next to a slope that leads to a seasonal creek. There are young straight trees on either side. The sky through the canopy is partly cloudy.

Got some good video of a #Monarch consuming the flowers of Ascelpias tuberosa (Butterflyweed) in July. They really will eat any part of milkweeds available. Plenty of young leaves there for the taking, but sometimes they go for flowers, seed pods, stems, etc. #pollinators #nativeplants #butterflies
