My #amethyst pendant (which needs reattaching so I can wear it again) wants you to vote #Quartz! #MinCup26

I do have some lovely specimens of #Quartz, including this one I named Monster. I don’t know what that black stuff is, but it’s a coating, and I’ve done my best to scrub it off. #MinCup26

Large specimen of quartz on some kind of matrix. The points are also covered in some kind of black material that does not come off.

Somehow quartz is losing? Come on, #MinCup26, vote for SiO3 in all its forms!

www.mineralcup.org/2026/vote-re...

Yes, I gathered a some of my favorite quartz samples and put 3D printed (phosphorescent and fluorescent) Grace and Rocky for...size comparison. (Plus my cats don't want to be models.)

3D printed figures from the movie Project Hail Mary perched upon, and holding rocks with quartz. Grace is on a blobby metamorphic rock with white quartz, in front and moving from left to right: amethyst point, a pink sandstone, red jasper coated quartz point, chunk of amethyst, rose quartz, green epidote with quartz, grayish-white quartz, petrified wood, and Rocky is on gray quartzite holding chalcedony (it took so long to balance that, seems worthy of a vote!).

#Quartz is still behind #Asagiite! After ten years and with all these beautiful colors it deserves at least the quarter finals! Vote #quartz!

#MinCup26 👩‍🔬🧪⚒️

Tweezers for scale. Polished quartz samples are arranged in a line with white and clear samples at one end, violet, yellow, and red in the middle and brown and grey ones at the other end.

Nice colour asagiite, but it’s no contest. Team #Quartz all the way!

Quartz gets my physics vote as 20% of the Earth’s crust & representative typical elastic moduli, piezoelectricity & its role in clocks, electronics, GPS, computers!

My mini linocut with quartz crystals and word “Quartz” in script in slate grey. Some of the facets of the crystals are printed onto collaged iridescent translucent paper so they have a pink to pale blue sheen.Rembrandt, Portrait of Margaretha de Geer
ca 1661

The pigment analysis revealed a palette consisting of red, orange, and yellow ochres, smalt, bone black, lead white, and carmine cochineal lake.

This is a portrait of an older woman dressed in black with a large lace collar, seated in a substantial chair, holding a handkerchief and looking directly at the viewer, against a dark background.

Several pigments have varying amounts of quartz content, but smalt, a pigment with a long history often used, for instance, by Rembrandt is prepared by heating quartz sand, potassium carbonate and a small amount of cobalt (II,III) oxide (Co3O4).

These shiny green Aventurin gemstones are again mainly made of #quartz, one of the most common minerals on the Earth's surface. The green color comes from small Fuchsite impurities, a Cr-containing, green variety of #mica.
