At some point I stopped trying to understand every word and just started listening to how it sounded. Weirdly that made it easier to enjoy bc I wasnt treating it like something I had to figure out anymore. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty

Just tried to close my eyes and listen, like how it said in the beginning, and honestly for me it is nearly impossible to make out what she is saying without reading the words along with it. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
I thought translation meant getting the same idea from one language into another but this feels like the opposite. The “mistake” or difference between them is literally what creates the interesting part. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
Things still have meaning even if they don't make sense at first. There are times when the way something sounds or makes us feel says more than words could. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
I had to put the video in 2x, it was just too slow. I wonder how it would've sounded had she just been talking instead of singing. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
I noticed that once the music changed, I started hearing the same words differently even though the words themselves didnt change. It made me realize the sound around language can totally change the mood and meaning I give to it. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
This is making me realize how much I depend on meaning when I listen to someone. When I dont fully know what the sounds are supposed to mean I start noticing rhythm, tone and repetition way more. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
Some of the chinese meanings feel way more dramatic than the english phrase that started it 😭 like how did we go from a normal everyday sentence to an entire poetic scene. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
Honestly taken aback seeing how much is needed just to say that simple sentence, compared to all of the pervious shorter sentences. I also see that in the actual translation they just use the number "667," is their not characters for numbers or... #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
I feel like seeing the words actually changes what I hear. Once I read the english first my brain basically refuses to hear anything else after that which is kinda crazy. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
I kept catching myself trying way too hard to find the english sentence in every sound lol. At some point I realized maybe im not supposed to “solve” it and the confusion is literally part of listening to it. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
The sounds are familiar enough for me to follow, but I can't fully connect them to meaning. This makes me feel like both a speaker and a stranger. I'm genuinely curious about what it means to be fluent. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
What stood out to me is how the exact same sounds can create two totally different experiences depending on what language you know. One person hears something simple, while someone else is getting way more imagery and meaning from it. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
At first it sounded almost calming to me, but once I paid more attention I started noticing the sounds of the words more than the meaning. Its weird because my brain still keeps trying to turn it back into normal English. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
After a while, some of the sounds sound like English, but then they change into something else. It makes me think about how much I depend on words I already know to make sense of what I hear. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
I almost want to speak along because the sounds make sense, but I'm not sure if I'm following the language or just moving to the beat. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
#hwa4 #yingelishiparty The final minute or so of the poem feels really sad, though listening to what the words sound like in English is not. I don't know why it struck me the way that it did, but it made me feel somber and reflective.
#hwa4 #yingelishiparty I am definitely feeling a lot of friction within the tragedy strikes section. I don't know if it's the combination of the music and the more chaotic nature of the speaker's delivery, but it makes me very uneasy and my brain does not find it pleasant lol
I wish she sung faster, some of the words I really have to focus and almost force myself to hear what it's supposed to sound like because the words are so stretched out. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
#hwa4 #yingelishiparty I think telephone is actually my favorite of all the individual poems. I don't know why, but it makes me feel really serene and at peace. Even though I find the language wavers slightly and I don't hear much "English" sounding stuff, the delivery is calm and level
