one of last week's orb weavers - probably Araneus nordmanni. notice the little guy!! i didn't even see it until i was going back through the photos, so i didn't get closer photos. i wonder if it's a squatter?

a medium-sized tan orb weaver in its web, seen from 'above' (the dorsal side), with decorative dark and white markings on the opisthosoma and banded legsthe same, from the ventral side. the lighting on this side make the coloration look more orange and spooky. at the edge of the frame, a MUCH smaller creature can be seen - i can't tell if it's a tiny spider sharing the web (which happens in food-rich environments), or if it's a tiny spider that was prey, or if it's a prey insect.

"Fierce"
This large (huge, to my arachnophobic eyes!) Fierce Orb-weaver seems to have chosen the outside (and, in one occurrence, INside!) of my house for its habitat. Strange, as it is supposed to favor conifer forests!
