Over the past few days, there has been much discussion about the prospect of Berlin’s Left Party joining the government.

“Do they even want to?” ran the headline in the *taz*, after the network of government-critical members known as “Linke in der Linken” (LIDL) had been made public.

There are many reasons to view a red-red-green coalition with scepticism:

The SPD campaign has long made it clear that it will not go along with the implementation of ‘Deutsche Wohnen & Co.: Expropriate’. Furthermore, the 2027 budget already has a deficit of 6 billion euros.

A future government would therefore inevitably have to implement a harsh austerity programme, as well as support deportations and police violence.

But there is also the more fundamental question of how we, as socialists, should fight for change for our class: in government or on the streets?

We do not simply want to discuss whether or why we reject left-wing participation in government.

Above all, we want to set out an alternative vision of how we can fight together for change.

The school strikes against compulsory military service have shown that our generation is ready to take the struggle into our own hands. In schools and on the streets, tens of thousands of schoolgirls have repeatedly protested against the Merz government’s plans.

A government that has nothing to offer us but cuts and rearmament, that wants to drag us into wars so that we can shoot at workers and young people on the other side of the front line for the profits of the rich.

Dissatisfaction with the government is also beginning to grow amongst workers.

In den letzten Tagen ist viel über die Perspektive einer Regierungsbeteiligung der Berliner Linkspartei diskutiert worden.

»Wollen sie überhaupt?« titelte die taz, nachdem die Vernetzung regierungskritischer Mitglieder mit dem Namen »Linke in der Linken« (LIDL) öffentlich gemacht worden war.

Es gibt viele Gründe, eine rot-rot-grüne Koalition kritisch zu sehen:

Die SPD Kampagne hat schon lange angekündigt, bei der Umsetzung von »Deutsche Wohnen & Co. : Enteignen« nicht mitzugehen. Zusätzlich hat der Haushalt von 2027 bereits ein Defizit von 6 Milliarden Euro.

Eine kommende Regierung müsste also auf jeden Fall ein hartes Sparprogramm umsetzen, sowie Abschiebungen und Polizeigewalt mittragen.

Doch es stellt sich auch die grundsätzlichere Frage, wie wir als Sozialist:innen Veränderungen für unsere Klasse erkämpfen sollen: In der Regierung oder auf der Straße?

Wir wollen nicht nur diskutieren, ob bzw. warum wir eine linke Regierungsbeteiligung ablehnen.

Wir wollen vor allem eine alternative Perspektive aufzeigen, wie wir für Veränderungen gemeinsam kämpfen.

Die Schulstreiks gegen die Wehrpflicht haben gezeigt, dass unsere Generation bereit ist, den Kampf selbst in die Hand zu nehmen. An den Schulen und auf der Straße haben mehrmals zehntausende Schülerinnen gegen die Pläne der Merz-Regierung protestiert.

Eine Regierung, die uns nichts außer Kürzungen und Aufrüstung zu bieten hat, die uns in Kriege ziehen will, um für die Profite der Reichen auf Arbeiter*innen und Jugendliche auf der anderen Seite der Front zu schießen.

Auch unter Arbeiter*innen beginnt die Unzufriedenheit mit der Regierung zu wachsen.
