Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. Today, we had the honour to hear from residential school survivors, and the survivors living with intergenerational trauma after. We also watched beautiful performances and heard a reminder to keep Indigenous languages and art forms alive.

We remember. We listen. And we commit to the ongoing work of reconciliation.

This morning, I attended the Sunrise Ceremony and community gathering at West Harbour to listen, learn and reflect.

Truth and Reconciliation is an ongoing responsibility to keep learning and taking action. #NDTR

From afar, this flag looked like it was just pillers until you look closer. It's the name of known children who died in residential schools here in Canada #ndtr there are still names to add as graves are left to be found.

What are you doing to ensure the Calls to Action are implemented and not forgotten? Centring Indigenous leadership is key to effective Reconciliation, so that we don’t pursue non-TRC concepts like “economic reconciliation.” 2/9

Truth means listening. Reconciliation means action. ATU 508 honours Survivors, remembers the children, and stands against anti-Indigenous racism. #NDTR #halifax #novascotia

Today we honour the survivors of the residential school system, their families and communities, and the Indigenous Peoples whose histories and experiences continue to shape our communities.

A slide that reads, "Today we honour the survivors of the residential school system, their families and communities, and the Indigenous Peoples whose histories and experiences continue to shape our communities.

As settlers who seek to work towards reconciliation, we all bear responsibility for the enduring harm caused by the residential school system. Listening, reflection, and remembrance means nothing if we continue to conduct ourselves in support of colonial ideals and values.

Reconciliation requires that we actively work to dismantle the colonial systems of structural racism and cultural genocide that continue to harm Indigenous Peoples across the country. This means taking concrete action to the inequities inherited from past wrongs, such as the overrepresentation of Indigenous people in the criminal justice system, inadequate access to education, and socio-economic disparities.

Together, we can build a country where these injustices are always remembered but never repeated."

Today, I’m taking time to reflect, to listen, and to keep learning. But most importantly, I’m thinking about how I can teach my children these uncomfortable truths—to help them understand it, recognize its ongoing impacts, and grow up with a responsibility to do better.
