The Goddess’ words were iron bricks strapped to her back, yet Nat clung tight. The cold disinterest of the Universal Mirror challenged the druglike humidity of The Garden. If only she could break past it. If only there was a single crack like in the sidewalks of the silks. A small enough crack that an unrepentant weed could push through dozens of feet of concrete and tar, and still bloom strong.

“Hey.” It was the guy talking. With reluctance, Ceres turned her gaze away from Vola and to the mouthbreather in front of her. He was skinnier up close. Paler. The kind of guy you’d find listening to headphones in the park, playing chess with himself. If she’d ever needed proof she was a lesbian, this was it. Right now, his bland features were contorted in a mask of irritation. “So, thanks for apologizing and for buying another drink - but we were in the middle of a conversation…” he trailed off, clearly expecting her to take the hint. Again, she angled her body towards the girl, subtly away from him. “Oh, cool, about what?”

I trust you.” The lines of Ahn-Me’s face relaxed just a little bit at the vote of confidence. “Deal.” Ceres glanced down at her own shirt and adjusted her cleavage. Ran her fingers through her hair. Pinched her cheeks in the bar’s mirror. “Without a mess, you said?” Ahn-Me arched an eyebrow at Ceres’ primping. “If you can.” “Please, it’s me,” she tossed over her shoulder. “That’s what I’m afraid of, Shark Girl!”

The Three "kobolds" are Cerise, Victor, and a bullied Gaius who have taken Doran's ID to buy beer and cigs despite obviously being 3 kobolds in a trench coat and Doran is a Human.

That time last year, when you burned his physical form, it seemed to hurt him badly. He hasn’t shown up in person since - just tried to terrorize us in other ways.” She looked up at the overhang of the stoop, noting a length of rotting wood and rusted metal that wasn’t there last month. “The building is doing worse too. I can’t tell if they are traps, or if he’s losing his grip on the building’s integrity.” She nodded towards the hanging debris.
