The European mantis is typically green or brown, but can also be shades of yellow, tan, gray or black.
This one was a lovely shade of green with edgings in orange and yellow.

A female European mantis (Mantis religiosa) on the siding of my house, looking at me with her large compound eyes. That’s actually a pseudopupil, which is an optical illusion, seen as the black spot looking back. They can turn their heads, 180°. They have 3-D vision that can detect motion against the background to help them locate prey.

I do believe this is a female so she would not be flying, the males are the ones I see on the wing.

Head and torso (thorax?) shot of a green European praying mantis with edgings of orange and yellow. She is clinging to the side of my house. I've also seen males on the wing who are probably looking for her. It isn't hard to get a head when you are this gorgeous. 🤭💀
