The question is not only “how many offspring?”, but whether we have a European system capable of tracing donor use and protecting DCPs’ right to know their genetic origins. #ESHREjc
Right! Donor conception doesn’t stop at national borders. Different offspring limits and non-interoperable records can make national safeguards ineffective.
With cross-border reproduction increasing, future DCP may face some challanges to obtain info about their donor. You think there should be a European approach to donor anonymity to reduce barriers for DCP seeking donor info (as the growing discussion regarding maximum no. of donations?) #ESHREjc
The EU and Council of Europe should make identity-release the standard, create cross-border donor registries, set a European limit on families per donor, and guarantee access for every donor-conceived person, wherever they were conceived. #ESHREjc
One donor's gametes can be used in several countries, each with its own offspring limit and no shared record. Donor-conceived people can end up with large, unknown groups of other DCPs from same donor spread across borders. So yes, Europe must act. #ESHREjc
At the same time, regulation should consider the practical and ethical complexities of cross-border reproductive care. #ESHREJC
Absolutely. Harmonisation at European and international level could help reduce the significant differences between countries, particularly regarding donor-conceived people’s rights to access information and the management of donor offspring limits. #ESHREjc
We believe that there is a need for more European and international regulation to safeguard the rights of DCPS and regarding the maximum number of offspring from one donor.

Our study did not show any differences regarding interest in donor-information between DCPs from lesbian-couple and heterosexual-couple families. Of note is that most DCPs had known from early age also inte heterosexual-couple families. #ESHREjc
Different legal frameworks across Europe can make it harder for DCP to navigate access to donor information. ESHRE’s EIM has documented considerable variation in donor anonymity across European countries (doi.org/10.1093/humr...). This adds complexity for DCP seeking info across borders. #ESHREjc
Q4 is here! 🤓 Curious to know the experts opinion @marianavmartins.bsky.social @giuliana-baccino.bsky.social @aindekeu.bsky.social @fertilityeurope.bsky.social @hgroundstroem.bsky.social @claudialampic.bsky.social #ESHREjc
Q4: What are the implications of cross-border reproduction for Donor-Conceived People (DCP) seeking access to information about their donor and people conceived from the same donor, given the differences between national legal frameworks? Should this be addressed at a European level? #ESHREjc
Looking forward to it! 🙌 #ESHREjc
We fully agree with your comments! Claudia & Henrik #ESHREjc
That seems a good mechanism! It’s important to acknowledge that not all DCP want contact, and that both the right to know about others and DCP right to privacy need to be considered.
I am curious if they are also told how many people are born from the same donor? #ESHREjc
Sry, we are in the middle of analysis so you will have to wait for the results :) We hope to publish in the spring. #ESHREjc
Managing DCP expectations regarding the donor's openness to contact is important.
Should this information about the donor’s willingness to be contacted also be provided when DCP request donor information? #ESHREjc
Looking forward to reading the results! 🤓🙌
Do you see any differences in the relationship with parents between those who consider it important to their identity comapred to those who dont think so? (if you can give us a little preview 👀) #ESHREjc
We believe it necessary for same-donor peers to have consented to being identifiable to other DCPs. In Sweden a DCP can choose to add their own name and contact-information in the donors medical record at the clinic if they are open to being identified by same-donor peers.

Important difference between background details and to know if the donor is open to contact. #ESHREjc
