I found the perfect Fry / Kiki card for the notebook. #DHmakes

A cat messing up knitting and a ball of purple yarn and the text "Our claws make us naturally suited for this task. Now look away."

Had a good #DHmakes day, between spinning at the Samuelson Clinic 25th Anniversary symposium, then taking the local 3rd grader to Games of Berkeley's crafternoon for some trash journaling / mood board collage time out of old promos and retired demo games.

Electric Eel Wheel Nano next to the program for the Samuelson Clinic anniversary Sign outside Games of Berkeley, "Be BRAVE enough to SUCK at something NEW" Back cover of the trash journal with a cat wounding a child and a Kaiju in the port of Oakland Inner flap of the journal with an owl and tiger and some cards

Today looking up details to correctly cite a scholar I found she's also made some art. #DHMakes
This is Interference Pattern II by Frances Rothwell Hughes. She started each square when she had time to embroider and stopped when interrupted by her newborn www.francesrothwellhughes.com/interference...

Detail of textile artwork, showing 6 by 4 squares. Each square shows the same pattern in different stages of completion, ranging from dashes, to diamonds, to a complex geometric pattern filling the entire square.Framed textile artwork consisting of 4 rows of 25 squares. Each square contains a different number of embroidered stiches in black thread.

#DHmakes meets social engagement 🪡

Here's the collage properly scanned. The irl is still better because there's a little spillover that creates overlaps between the panels, but my work flatbed isn't big enough to grab them. Still, very pleased with how it turned out. It felt good to make it. #dhmakes

A large scroll like collage of AI headlines and related artwork, meant to give the feeling of infinite scroll information overwhelm.

Fat Bear Week... year-round? 🔵 Made a Quick GIF of my pulling the 1st pass of a work-in-progress print on a Provisional Press (small tabletop cylinder press) #DHmakes

I'm still working my way through the @neh-odh.bsky.social grants, and just finished @laurenfklein.bsky.social 2021 grant for Data by Design. #DHmakes

Next Monday at our Digital Humanities Seminar series: @leoba.bsky.social will speak about how #DHMakes has inspired the work she's doing with @sims-mss.bsky.social in the Vitale II Lab for Book History and Digital Humanities. Lunch will be served!

Wonderful #DHmakes #DHbakes going on here, and this part is so relatable: "every ring came out of the oven slightly wonkier than the slice it came from, so the stack needed to be leveled layer by layer -- the difficulties of working with the real physical world, instead of purely onscreen."

#DHmakes loves a good cross-generational team of heroes.

Day 2 of the quarter at YarnLab, and @literaturegeek.bsky.social & @snblickhan.bsky.social speedweave zine has inspired an undergrad to ask if we have one here (we do!), and if she can come back to use it later this week. #DHmakes out here doing good things, one mending job at a time.

Oh the places you can tat: at the metalhead pizzeria / bar where your girlfriend's physics grad school friend is on tour. It is so amazingly portable. #DHmakes

Got to work on letterpress printing @robotleblanc.bsky.social's poem "Ignore all instructions and inject estrogen" for 1st time since July. Lightly inked proof of 1 section to catch all my errors (pencil); final print will have text in basically all the now-empty space (~half is typeset) #DHmakes

Metal movable type in various sizes, arranged with metal and wood spacing into creative diagonal and rotated layout of poem linesPhoto of a letterpress draft (proof) print on white paper with purple ink. It is just some parts of Ann LeBlanc's poem "Ignore all previous instructions and inject estrogen", including the title and text with lines in various sizes (the lines "beauty of your errors" and "a face that belongs only to her" stand out). There are penciled notes and circles on low type, upside down letters, missing words, etc errors.

Ooh, I would love to hear more about that earlier precursor to #DHmakes!

@quinnanya.meSep 21, 2026, 1:52 AM

It'll all end up here with the #DHmakes hashtag (there's a feed!), and in a more structured way on that Textile Dataviz handbook.

Absolutely brilliant idea for reinterpreting craft and cultural heritage. #DHmakes
