@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.socialWe lost Joyce Jillson 22 years ago today. She was best known to #Columbo fans as Rick Carsini's fiance, Joan Stacey, in "Any Old Port in a Storm". Later in her life she wrote a daily astrology column for the newspapers.
@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.social"Death Lends a Hand" was actually the first #Columbo episode filmed, but the network thought "Murder by the Book" was a stronger opener so they aired that one first.
@adamcrussell.mastodon.sdf.org.ap.brid.gyI saw this quote about how it could have been logically concluded that Jack Smith was in Atlanta at an NBA game.
Flimsy and in fact laughably wrong, but to be honest this is about as strong as the evidence that #Columbo usually reveals at the end of the show!
@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.socialThe murder in Grand Deceptions is a little unusual for a #Columbo killing. Only a handful of times I can think of did the murderer plan to kill, face-to-face, with his hands or a knife. A much more physical and brutish killing than usual.
@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.socialMy next episode guide is in the works, it's for "A Bird in the Hand". I have it ranked #54 currently, we'll see if that changes after a couple of rewatches this week. :-) #Columbo
@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.socialOccasionally the question comes up of whether anybody tried to kill #Columbo. Yes, a few did...always unsuccessfully, thank goodness.
@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.socialRobert Karnes only got to appear in 2 Columbos, which is unfortunate because I thought he did a great job as Sgt. Grover. Would have liked to have seen him be a more regular part of the #Columbo team.
@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.socialHappy Birthday to Columni Ian McShane
Born on September 29, 1942, Ian McShane appeared in"Rest in Peace, Mrs. Columbo" as Leland St. John. If you know him best from Deadwood or John Wick, it’s fun to spot him on #Columbo.
@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.social"The Most Crucial Game" features one of the most innovative murder weapons in the series. Paul Hanlon (played by Robert Culp) uses a block of ice to bludgeon his victim, then just tosses the ice into the pool...where of course it will melt away. #Columbo
@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.social"Murder a Self-Portrait" just started on Universal Crime. It's too bad Fionnula Flanagan didn't have more to do on screen. She's one of the most likeable characters in the episode. #Columbo
@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.socialIf you're interested in some of the #Columbo mysteries that never got made, author David Koenig has done a great job of documenting some of them in "Unshot Columbo." 📖
@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.socialVito Scotti appeared in 6 episodes of #Columbo and was quite good in all of them! It would have been appropriate for him to return for the final episode, but alas he passed away in 1996.
@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.socialHappy birthday to Columni William Windom! He was the DA, Burt Gordon, in the first #Columbo movie of the Peter Falk era, "Prescription Murder". As far as I can tell he's the only actor (other than Falk, of course) from Prescription Murder to return for another Columbo appearance...in Short Fuse.
@crithon.bsky.socialand a cute Columbo and dog drawing

@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.socialRest in peace Rob Garrison. You may recognize him from The Karate Kid where he played on of the Cobra Kai, but in 1989 he had a modest role as one of the assistants at the Anneman Institute in "Columbo Goes to the Guillotine". #Columbo
@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.socialHappy birthday to Tony Giorgio. Better known from The Godfather, he had a small role as one of the gun dealers Devlin goes to in "The Conspirators". #Columbo
@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.socialHappy birthday to Columni Stephen Caffrey! He played one half of the murderous frat boy team in "Columbo Goes to College". #Columbo
@lieutenant-columbo.bsky.social"Negative Reaction" just started on Universal Crime. A very different role for Dick Van Dyke. Antoinette Brower was not the most sympathetic victim. #Columbo
