It's a striking signal in it's magnitude. I added the same time during the 2015 El Nino which had been also an extreme one but much narrower. Just one recent study mentioned that El Ninos could broading. Have to look where I have it. Till now I never encountered any mentioning of the north/south temperature anomaly distribution changing. Just another surpriseShows the sea surface temperature anomaly - it's much broader...

Two weeks of Antarctica circulation - shows nicely how the sea ice and the ice shield is kind of attacked by vorticies of low and high pressure systems channeling lower level jet's towards the continents with moist and warm air...
