reposting this for a friend who I believe is shadow banned, if not then pls forgive the double question.
If my full was rejected, but I made significant revisions over the past year and have been a part of a mentorship program, can I requery? #AskDV
What are agents thoughts on diverse, middle grade novels in verse? #askDV
There are absolutely comps that become so overused that they start to lose meaning. At one time, it was Twilight. Even further back, The Da Vinci Code. Try not to use THE most popular book of the year, and you'll generally manage to avoid this. #AskDV
Not impossible but I do think the market is still skewing YA to older audiences more than younger.

I am also an artist. Might it help to include a drawing with my pitch if it directly relates to the book I'm pitching?
Absolutely allowed. SOME editors and SOME agents might try to edit you into a very cautious place, but the right ones for you will let you share your story in the way that is most honest and authentic. #AskDV
This is going to be pretty vague, apologies, but a lot of times it comes down to execution of the manuscript Maybe an agent expected something different with a plot or character. It’s entirely subjective. #AskDv
#askdv my dystopian sci-fi YA novel is very satisfyingly quirky - do you believe there’s a perfect home for every type of story? The perfect agent match? Is no story too unique to make it in the market?
thanks! could you please answer my other question, which no one has yet touched over two of these sessions:
#AskDV are fiction books that are critical of Israel allowed, or as per normal, is the bias highly highly in favor of censoring anything critical? for example, must talk about "both sides"?
I've always liked TV/film comps. And since you have a couple of chances to get noticed in DVpit? Yeah! Experiment with a couple! Try to have fun with it and enjoy it. #AskDV
Some people are really strict around word count, but I think the best rule of thumb is that if you've cut everything you can cut, and the book is still long? Then it's just a long book. And that's okay. There are people who are totally open to that. #AskDV
I think for a lot of folks it would be unless the sample pages were incredible.
There are editors in sci-fi fantasy that don’t look at manuscripts over 120,000 words now.
There is a need for more younger YA, and teachers/librarians are asking for it. It's tough to break out at the moment, but I'm personally convinced that this is a space we're going to see growth in as soon as publishing cracks the code on reaching those readers. #AskDV
Contract word counts are much shorter this year. I always like yo say 85k is a great place to be.
Themes and diction tend to be big factors. If you’re thinking your story if made into a movie would be rated R then it’s probably for the adult market.
If you’re writing nonfiction, your bio is very important because you’re the “expert” on the topic you’re writing. If it’s fiction, anything you feel comfortable sharing. Any past writing publications, school, or career paths are helpful. Fun facts are not necessary but make me smile. #AskDv
