Ethics approval for clinician surveys: variation in guidance and practice
Whether a questionnaire directed at healthcare professionals requires formal ethics approval should, one might assume, be a straightforward question. Surprisingly, it is not.
Chronic postsurgical pain after caesarean results in:
• interference with daily activity, physical function, sleep, mood, fatigue and sexual function, for 3 months - 10 years
• mental health impairment
• a meaningful economic burden

30 studies.. >28,000 women.. post caesarean delivery
16 studies reported substantial pain-related interference with daily activity, physical function, sleep, mood, fatigue and, in some cases, sexual function, persisting from 3 months to up to 10 years postpartum.
Thanks for sharing @liangrhea.bsky.social Good that this critique is coming from surgeons themselves. I suspect similar issues apply within my world (anaesthesia) and more broadly. Shout out to UK NICE who try to ensure that stuff we do has a clinical and cost-effectiveness base. #AnSky
Congratulations to Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust on achieving their third ACSA reaccreditation.
The trust is one of only eight anaesthetic departments in the UK to gain reaccreditation three times.

This is potentially very interesting but when we need to give 6-8 weeks notice for SL, putting it out on socials three weeks beforehand doesn't seem all that helpful #AnSky

Calculating lean body weight - can the same formula as adults be used for children?
Men: [(100 - BMI)/100] × total body weight (TBW)
Women: [(90 - BMI)/100] × TBW
The authors found that the simplified formula may be applied to children.
If you have students who really want to dig into it, with an emphasis on failed O2-delivery, I would recommend www.theo2comp.com I don't think it is widely known yet, but a retired Norwegian anaesthesiologist has made a digital version of his book. 435 pages free pdf🤩 #ansky #medsky #foamed
Here I am this afternoon, returning to the dog-eared, detached pages of a disintegrating old textbook to reread V/Q mismatch under anaesthesia, simply because I was annoyed with myself for having forgotten parts of it.
It happens to other people too (the forgetting, I mean)?
