Friday afternoon: You just want to be done work already. Me too.

Why not spend a quick hour with me and my co-panelists @aalaptrivedi.bsky.social and @janetwordsmith.bsky.social to learn the basics of working with international clients?

At 3:15 pm EDT. Find us in the Whova app.

First up in day three of #ACESVCON26 is the can't-miss session, "What’s New in AP Style?" The first addition AP Stylebook editor Anna Jo Bratton highlighted is "AI slop."

Having some #ACESVCON26 FOMO because I chose not to attend this year (partly because I'm terrible at actually participating in virtual conferences).

Any really good recaps that I should know about? Who's got the recaps? (Other than probably @carolinavonkampen.com 😉 )

I’m attending the ACES #VCON26 virtual editing conference this week, and I’m live posting from sessions I attended on Bluesky. I've made a blog post roundup of my threads here:

Oooh OK I'll have to watch the nonfiction editing session. Agreed, the dictionary talk was fascinating! I learned a ton of new stuff about dictionaries. 🤯 #ACESVCON26

What a long second day at #acesvcon26! Wonderful sessions led to a quick video game break, which led to a nap. Now it’s dinner and client work for me.

And another asynchronous proof of #StetWalk photo, this one from after yesterday’s #ACESVCON26 sessions were over. It was even non-hot and non-humid, almost like fall is on the way.

The panel about tropes in developmental editing was so fun!!! #ACESVCON26 #VCON26

It's been awesome! What sessions have been your favorites? I really liked Ema Naito's session on plain language this morning and the panel about tropes in developmental editing! #ACESVCON26

Coming this fall: @acesediting.bsky.social will conduct an editor rates benchmarking study.

It'll help members set fair, competitive rates and understand global market trends.

The survey will be open to members and nonmembers. Look for your survey invite this fall!

The offboarding survey (in Google Forms) asks how the author felt about working with editor and anything editor can improve. It also lets the author leave a testimonial for the editor.

Me, at the Humane Society: Could I borrow a cat?

Humane Society: What? Why?

Me: I'm giving two presentations tomorrow, and I think having a cat that hangs out on my desk during them would help.

HS: Yeah, we don't do that.

Nicole's offboarding includes:

Editorial debrief within 2 weeks of delivery: A follow-up conversation so author and editor can go deeper, talk through any questions they have.

Email that's a thank-you for working together and a offboarding survey

Reframing her marketing helped Nicole in these ways:

🌟 Inbound client opportunities through her newsletter
🌟 Increased community through LinkedIn and social media
🌟 Marketing became a manageable part of my business
