Der Tag beginnt gut. Kurz nach dem Vereinigen der beiden Zugteile wurde es Dunkel in der S11... Aktuell wieder etwas Licht, und wir hören wie ab und zu mal wieder etwas Druckluft auf Türen und Bremsen geht, dann wieder gelöst wird.

Last night on an #ÖBB 🇦🇹 #Graz to #Vienna domestic #InterCity. The train included #SBB🇨🇭#EuroCity #Transalpin cars. Originating in #Zurich, they were (re-)used for a Vienna round trip. As a consequence, the #DiningCar was Swiss, the crew and the menu Austrian. Enjoyed a Wiener Schnitzel for dinner.

No, not the whole SBB. The network is designed with multiple generation sources, converters and transmission connections. SBB can also obtain electricity from the normal 50-Hz grid and convert it to 16.7 Hz.

#SBB #energy network has 8 own power stations + 12 converter stations, plus 88+ substations and ~1,900 km of transmission lines.

A 2026 dataset of the SBB traction network counts 13 power plants/converter stations, ~70 substations and 11 connections to the public grid.

#Ritom is one of a relatively small number of major sources, but it is not a single-point-of-failure for the #SBB #railway network.

#SBB dedicated traction-power system operates at 16.7 Hz and has its own transmission network.
