Like any other paradigm, these earliest of our experiences will direct and constrain us even in terms of where we will look to explore. They force us to interpret the data we find into constructions of assumptions which skew and often reverse the interpretations that should arise from them. Yes, that should logically arrive from them. Elsewhere I have called this our basic wrong-gettedness.1 Indeed, from the paradigm I am unveiling in which everything we know and feel flows out of what we once felt and experienced, our reason is discovered to be no more than just a product of them, and not separate, and inherently faulty. This perspective reveals our vaunted logic and intellect to be riddled through with a species-arrogance — for reasons I detail in those other works — which often overturns our being able to see what would be obvious to any other species observing the same thing. Therefore, past experience determines the memory out of which we build our logic and reason. We have no detached reason. We only have a species-arrogance that we do. Which itself emanates from, is determined by, such early experience. 2. DESTROYING WORLDS Page 11 …“feedback” or “alternative”-enough perspectives to allow us a glimpse of what is, for truth, really real? Let us just look at what modern science tells us about the observations it makes on the world. According to Gary Zukav (1979), the author of a widely read overview of the new physics, a major underpinning of modern physics is the realization and discovery that science cannot predict anything, as had been taken for granted, with absolute certainty. Relatedly, the new physics informs us that there is simply no way to separate the observed event from the observer. That is to say that the observer is, her- or himself, an inexcludable variable and always affects the results of an experiment. In a very fundamental way, the perceiver influences what is seen in even the most “scientifically” pure observations and experiments: “The new physics ... tells us clearly that it is not possible to observe reality without changing it.” 1 Zukav (1979) takes, as an example, that a condition is set up to perceive an event: If it is designed to find waves in light, it discovers waves. If it is designed to find particles, we get particles — in supposedly the same “outside world” ... and regardless of the fact that logically light cannot be both a particle and a wave.2

DANCE OF THE SEVEN VEILS II Page 32 Book Six, Cells with a View The book following Womb with a View in The Path of Ecstasy Series of books is to be Cells with a View. In it I will show how the events around conception, this time — the peri-conceptional experiences — configure even more of our biocultural matrix even prior to our “beliefs” about things outside the natural. It is my view that our very perception of Form reality is created here. You might say this is where we not just read the rules of the game we will be playing in life, we imprint them on all of what we will perceive ever after in life. The Cellular-Formular Veil So, prior to religious and spiritual beliefs we have seemingly indisputable assumptions impressed on us related to the existence of duality in the world and the existence of space as well as time. If we accept a mystical position that both of those are illusions, then it is my contention that we can look to our pre- and peri-conceptional experiences and events as to why we have such deep-rooted assumptions about reality, such “illusions” as to the existence of space and time. This is where — at the peri-conceptional experiences — we are looking more at the biologically constituted as opposed to the bioculturally constituted realities.

This warming began at around twenty-one million years ago and receded only about fourteen mya. Life was no longer so good. The days were hot and discomforting. We find that in doing this reversal, some startling things are revealed. To begin, from the perspective of each greater awareness, each more limited perspective becomes understandable and the different ones of those perspectives can be compared. For example, it is difficult for one individual to truly understand another. However, standing within a knowledge of psychology in general we have a better understanding of another and we can compare one individual’s reality with another and come up with meaningful and true conclusions, even comparisons and evaluations. That is, indeed, why we have the science of psychology in the first place. But at the level of cultures, a similar thing happens. Anthropologists come necessarily to the conclusion that another culture cannot truly be understood by someone standing in a different culture. APOCALYPSE – NO! 31 …constriction ... of the entire body or just the head ... and often added the element of prenatal discomfort by adding torture while so enclosed. The Iron “Maiden” is such a device. Note the feminine being employed in the name itself. Could that be any more clear that it is meant to be a painful, tortuous re-creation of being inside one’s mother? Modern movies showing such devices or procedures are indicative of these perinatal elements coming to the surface obviously. One example is “The Man in the Iron Mask.” In a similar respect, I have already mentioned our current preoccupation with water- boarding style torture. In employing suffocation, it is an effective and brutally inhuman way of stimulating people’s perinatal pain, just as straitjackets and jail cells are intended to.

PRODIGAL HUMAN Page 28 The infant has complex needs, which are as complex and de- manding as those that are taken care of by other species in the womb, and must rely on human adults, with all their flaws, shortcomings, and imperfections to somehow be able to attend to and satisfy them. Rarely can humans do it well, and never can they do it as well as Nature does for primates in the womb. By comparison, all other mammals, when born, are more able to provide for themselves, are further along in their development toward independence when born, are more capable of bringing about or at least initiating the satisfaction of their needs . . . hence they are less dependent, and vulnerable, than are human infants. Secondary altriciality in human infants means that there is a greater need for care, for “mothering” — because of the newborn’s greater helplessness, greater dependence, greater vulnerability — than that of all other mammals postnatally. THE PRIMAL MATRIX OF MIND Page 47 …inquiry and self-awareness is required for good scholarship is evident in that the field of anthropology, even early on, asserted that researchers needed to do their own therapy, uncover their own biases, before they could hope to interpret other cultures. The idea was that one needed to take back one’s personal unconscious projections to understand another culture. Which, by the way, is a shallower version of the message of this work that one must pull back all the Veils of projected early experience so as to better approach any overstanding of any larger Reality. These early anthropologists — Ruth Benedict (1934), for example — were aware how their own cultures and personal histories influenced what they saw in others ... in their case, in other cultures. While they said self-inquiry should be done, it is not done now, if it ever really was. Lacking this self-awareness everything scientists come up with is riddled through with unconscious pain and the seemingly archetypal creations come of them. In doing this clearing away of fear- and pain-laden prompts to our perception and interpretations of it, we might approach that view ec-static, that cosmic overstanding that is normally denied us out of the fact that we have such powerful determinants on our perception at the beginnings of our lives as the traumas prenatally and perinatally. So it is that in Book Five, Womb with a View, I continue the explo- ration of the Veils across our perception of clear Reality begun in The Secret Life of Stones and continued in these volumes, Dance of the Seven Veils I, II, III. Specifically, I do this regarding the perceptional configurations arising from our experience in the womb. I touch as well upon some of those emanating from our experience of birth and the events around conception. However, the elements of mythology surrounding birth are addressed already with thoroughness by Stanislav Grof, so I leave that to him, and I bring his insights forward with appropriate credit. And the elements of mythology peri-conceptionally, that is to say, emanating from the events around conception, while introduced in Dance of the Seven Veils III, and touched upon in Womb with a View, are taken up in greater detail in the book following, which is Book 6 in the Series. INTRODUCTION Page 2 The First Descent — Bipedalism A long long time ago ... we’re talking millions of years, double digits millions ... our ancestors lived in trees in a region of the Earth now called Africa.1 Humanity’s First Home Was the Trees Our primate forbears were arboreal, scurrying along tree limbs and with a small amount of ability to brachiate, that is, to swing below the limbs and branches, like some primates do today. We slept in branches, and we took nourishment from the trees. We were primarily fruitarian, augmenting our diet with insects, caterpillars, and the like. We did not hunt or eat meat. Foraging was the way to go and was eminently sufficient during normal times. Life was good; but as happens, it did not last forever. A change came upon the Earth. It was a global warming during the Miocene Era. The Miocene Era lasted from 23 to 5.3 million years ago and included periods of both warming and cooling of the Earth’s climate, though overall it was warmer than the preceding Oligocene Era and the following Pliocene. Before sharp drops in temperature at around fourteen million years ago and again at eight million years ago, the Earth had experienced a particularly torrid time.

While I initially constructed and wrote down my devolutional theory of consciousness — Falls from Grace — without the benefit of Shoham’s work, upon discovering it I could not help but be both confirmed and reinspired by the astounding resonance his understanding has with my own. Shoham (1979, 1990) starts his devolutional model in the womb and carries it through birth, weaning, and the oedipal periods of development. Though, as I delineate in Part 2, I disagree with his model by beginning mine at the creation of sperm and egg — as do other devolutional theorists like Francis Mott and David Wasdell — in virtually all other major instances his model corresponds to my own if one simply ... in keeping with a normal trend in child development in general as it begins to integrate the new pre- and perinatal evidence ... places everything back a little farther in time — in this case, specifically, one stage back. TRANSCENDING WORLDS Page 39 When this is reversed by various methods, and the brain is itself inhibited from its task of reducing awareness so that “Mind at Large seeps past the no longer watertight valve, all kinds of biologically useless things start to happen.” – Aldous Huxley “Biologically Useless Things Start to Happen” Our sciences have led us to learn that what we call reality is what we have found to be useful for us as a species, but that it is not necessarily what is True and is certainly not all that is true or real. So we find that the Reality of It All or the All That Is gets reduced down from what it is to the snippet of it that we have found to be biologically useful. But if we wish to know not merely what is practical but what is actually True or Reality, we need to go way beyond the smattering of facts thrown up by our ordinary senses and the sciences that are extensions of them. There are levels of that diminution of Reality — from All That Is down through what the individual knows to be true. So to know what is True, we need to reverse those reductions in true understanding.

Existential fact is in quotes to point out that this is not an essential fact of existence; rather they seem to be facts to humans because of the experience we share of being in constricting wombs which become uncomfortable and suffocating increasingly near the end. This is an example of what I have termed elsewhere, biologically constituted realities. Of course a similar thing — forcible “re-education” — could be said for the use of jail cells, solitary confinement, and enclosures like “The Hole” during incarceration. Simply the fact that we have a much greater percentage of our population in prisons than any time previously points to our mania of trying to control this aspect of our feelings from our origins ... and of an emerging perinatal unconscious triggering the reaction.
