In case you are wondering which desktop/wm to use with your fresh #NetBSD installation, don't. #CTWM is a great piece of software and there is no need for anything else (except perhaps a good .ctwmrc). My two cents.

五連休だから、もう 1台の #NetBSD (amd64) 機も
11.0_RC5 → 11.0_STABLE (自家ビルド) へアップグレード。
こちらも pkgsrc のコンパイル/インストールまであらかた完了した。

前回(6月)のように半日とはいかなかったが 2日足らずでいけた。

五連休だから、もう 1台の #NetBSD 11.0_RC5 機 (amd64) も
11.0_STABLE へアップグレードしないといけないというものだ。

前回 11.0_BETA → 11.0_RC5 へ上げたのは 6/20(土) だったようだ。
前回は半日でいけたようだが、今日は既に夕方になってしまったが..

調子に乗って、この #NetBSD デスクトップの Emacs も、
ring-bell-function を、効果音を再生するように設定した
(FreeBSD では以前から設定してた)。

効果音は LibreOffice の付属ファイルから持ってきた。
(FreeBSD でもそうしてた)

Python に付属のファイルは、何故か Emacs でうまく再生できない。
FreeBSD でも NetBSD でも。mpv ではいけるのだが。

祝・サウンド再生成功!

pkgsrc から mpv もインストール (ダメ元)。

何年か前の #NetBSD から、音が再生されなくなってしまった。
が、今回もう少し調査。

audiocfg コマンドを初めて知り、
audiocfg list すると、HDMI (? この PC に無いはず) がデフォルト。

sudo audiocfg default 1 すると
/dev/audio が /dev/audio1 へ向け変えられた。

その状態で、mpv 〜.flac を実行すると..

おお! 音が鳴った! 何年ぶりだ?

どこかの NetBSD から、何かのデフォルトが変わったのか。

#NetBSD ちなみに pkgsrc で入れたのは
sudo
rsync
umefont-ttf
rxvt-unicode
estd
libcddb
xfce4 (←これでひと晩かかる)
hsetroot
emacs
pkg_rolling-replace
ImageMagick

大量の依存パッケージも当然あり、pkg_info | wc -l は 367 と出た。

マシンが非力なので
(AMD Phenom X4 9750 という 18年前の CPU だが 64-bit 4-core である)、
クライアント、あるいは昔の X サーバ的扱いで
この程度のソフトしかインストールしてない。

五連休なので、 #NetBSD -current デスクトップを
11.99.6 → 11.99.8 (自家ビルド) へアップグレード。
pkgsrc のコンパイル/インストールもあらかた終わった。

xfce4 のコンパイルで、cddb/cddb.h が無いといって止まったので
libcddb というのをインストールして再開、
すると今度は p5-XML-SAX-Base で止まって、理由が分からず
ダメ元でそのままやり直したら何故かいけた。

アップグレード前は
pkg_rolling-replace で perl が毎回失敗していたが
今度は perl は普通にインストールされたようだ。

Better yet, his transcription contains the excellent "I built this while I was down at the pub and I had time to order and drink a whole pint while it was just trying to build the package into a tarball at the end.". Which sums up my approach to software engineering. #NetBSD

アップグレードしないといけないというものだ。

11.99.6 から 11.99.8 へ。自家ビルド。
前回 11.99.6 に上げたのは 5/22(金)〜23(土) だった。
