This job was honestly my highlight this year. An elopement in Norway. 5 days together with an incredible kind couple. I'm more than thankful. 🙏

A vertical photograph by European Elopement and wedding photographer Sturmsucht, shot from a low vantage point in a wide, wild mountain landscape in Norway under a heavy grey sky.

In the middle distance, slightly left of centre, a couple stands on a flat-topped grey boulder that rises out of the hillside. The man stands behind the woman, both arms wrapped around her from behind, hands clasped together over her stomach, his cheek resting close to her head. He wears a light beige or oatmeal suit — jacket and trousers — with dark boots. The woman stands facing forward, her eyes downcast, wearing a long, flowing ivory wedding dress with a deep V-neckline and delicate white lace appliqué trailing down the bodice and skirt; the fabric pools and drifts over the rock. She has long blonde hair, loose and blown slightly by the wind, with a thin braided headband or circlet across it. A small white flower arrangement sits low at her feet on the stone.

The surroundings are autumnal Norwegian highland: steep, undulating hills covered in dry golden-brown and rust-coloured grass, which fills the entire foreground in a soft, blurred sweep. Behind and around the couple the terrain rises into rocky, moss-green and brown slopes dotted with dark scrub and stone. Farther back, successive ridges and low mountains recede in muted olive and grey-green tones, layer fading into layer toward the horizon. The top third of the frame is dominated by a dramatic, overcast sky — dense charcoal and slate-grey clouds with a faint paler break near the upper centre.

The light is soft, flat and diffuse, with no sun; the colour palette is subdued and earthy — browns, ochres, moss greens, greys — against which the white dress reads as the brightest element in the picture. The mood is quiet, intimate and atmospheric, the two figures small within an expansive, slightly brooding natural setting.

A slightly opened gate with a padlock attached to it. There is a misty looking light leak in the opening of the gate - or is it a spirit? This is the entrance to the churchyard cemetery...

Haven’t posted anywhere in nearly two years, mostly because my photography fell into a slump. Recently picked up a 1965 Yashica A in mint condition to mess around with, and the spark is definitely back.

Shot on Ilford FP4 Plus.
