The bureaucrat’s eyes turned more bloodshot by way of answer, and Jorang continued. “The only order I have seen in your constabulary is bureaucracy, not discipline. Even if they did come, do you think the kind of people you have recruited could harm me any more than you could?”
Coleratt struggled merely to deflect the question with vulgarities. Jorang closed his hand around the empty tumbler on the desk. The glass creaked, then splintered in his grip.
“Yes, the Order of the Iron River are hard bastards,” he said, holding his palm above the desk and letting the shards fall from it without a drop of blood. “… those that follow its ideals. One year ago, we could have overrun this city’s corrupt, soft constabulary in less time than it would take you to finish a case of brandy.”
The bureaucrat stared at Jorang, then at the remains of his glass, then at Jorang’s hand, then at Jorang again. “… I don’t drink that much!”
	“Fifteen days.”
A weak smile crossed the bureaucrat’s face. “It takes me twenty-three days.”
“You would drink more by the tenth day, when you finally realized what we were doing.”
The smile vanished. “… damn it.”

Photo of a campfire. Most of upper two thirds of image shows sparks flying, which look like thin yellow-orange lines flying outwards from the fire. Three flame tongues reach upwards, with the leftmost the lowest and the rightmost the highest. In the body of the fire, logs burn red with fire-made cracks etched by black shadows. Parts of logs are black silhouettes. Some are edged with yellow and orange flames. The lower and right of the image is a deep, impenetrable black. This photo was taken with my cellphone at a family campfire in Parkton, Maryland, on October 13, 2018.
Writing Prompt Wednesday
That's Hot, written with a red outline font

Write a story, or poem that has
fire. Up to you how big the fire is
maybe it’s some candles, or a roaring
fire, or maybe your characters
explore the surface of the sun?

Our mascot, Typey the typewriter in the corner next to a campfire.
