Everyone is terribly excited about this bold new turn in British politics,
and the lads explain that the PM has laid out a radical plan that we will
all be invited to vote for in 2029% 1/7

Andy Burnham's radical ’

British reset

 The State of It >

The Labour Party is jubilant. Andy Burnham has

fired the starting gun for the next general

election with one of the most consequential

conference speeches in recent memory. He

used it to set out a series of major proposals,

including an end to the triple lock, the abolition

of first-past-the-post and closer ties with

Europe.
¥ flyingrodent @flyingrodent.bsky.social - 4h
What take from this is: whatever the great political experiment of 2020-

was meant to be - basically, two horrifying reactionary conservative
main parties with National Front politics, and fuck you if you don't like it -
it is now over, and we are being herded back into our traditional camps.

 flyingrodent @flyingrodent.bsky.social - 4h

It's notable that almost all of the political press is playing along with this
and they aren't doing their feral meltdown. | could take guesses at why
that is, and the main one is: they're going to get things they like and
want, and very few other people will. 3/7

 flyingrodent @flyingrodent.bsky.social - 4h

Assurances will have been made offscreen - they always are - so I'd
guess the upshot here is that the triple lock on pensions is a goner; we
will get some faff-arsed, wholly inadequate will-this-do version of a
personal care system, and we will get perfunctory efforts to rejoin lesser
EU programmes. 4/7

¥ flyingrodent @flyingrodent.bsky.social - 4h

l assume we'll also get the non-negotiable of British politics: scything
cuts to benefits, massive increases in military spending and sucking up
to whichever mad emperor is on the throne in Washington. Much the
same shit we were always getting , with a veneer of democratic
engagement, basically. 5/7
 flyingrodent @flyingrodent.bsky.social - 4h
If was these guys, I'd be hoping for a blowout by election that shows
they've trounced the Green Party, and I'd then try to ride this bullshit to
another general election win. Because the shine is going to come off this
stuff very quickly. &/7

 flyingrodent @flyingrodent.bsky.social - 4h
Anyway, the good news is that you don't need me or anyone else to tell
you whether any of this is actually real. What you do is, you ignore what
they say and you instead focus on what they do. And if what they do is
at least close to the rhetoric, then you can conclude they're on the level.

gave me nothing.

Does Andy Burnham have no idea what to do?

www taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2026/09... Why is Andy Burnham only
offering action after the next election, which he knows he will lose? Is it
because he does not actually know what to do?

I'll believe Burnham is a progressive when he brings forward laws to
undo our historically hostile position against LGBTQ+ people, immigrants
and refugees, and protesters.

Until then he's just Blue Labour with better vibes. 1/2

Did the man who just inherited a 172-seat majority off the back of a 33% vote share really say this with a straight face?

#UKPol #UKLabour

Burnham suggests it would not be legitimate for any party to form majority government with less than 30% of vote.

Andy Burnham has suggested that it would not be legitimate for a party to form a majority government with less than 30% of the vote.

In his Today interview, asked why he wanted electoral reform and a move towards proportional representation, Burnham replied:

"I found it better being elected under a different system as mayor of Greater Manchester, where people had one or two, they could put that on the ballot paper.

Because you had a reason to stop on every doorstep and chat to people who might not always support your party and try and get their second preference.

It just led to a better politics.

And I also feel that in an era of five party politics, can we really watch a party with less than 30% just walk into Downing Street? Is that something we should feel comfortable about?"

WOW! WOW! WOW!

I'm sure the timing is only coincidence, but just WOW!.

During the Transition Period, when we were still actually still a member, the EU offered us single market membership as an option.
Tossers and traitors turned it down.

Once we left, not an option. But...

And one in the Manchester Evening News.
Currently 71% for Rejoin.

Increasing weakness since Brexit, and American backstabbing is undoubtedly behind the rebirth in pressure on issues like Chagos, the Falklands.

In the Falklands War, contrary to the 2016 lies of Brexiters, we got a lot of help from the EU: U.N. support. Missile blueprints. Intelligence etc.

Nobody has figured out a system for preventing too much MONEY being in the hands of one individual.

And money is power.

No wonder the system is screwed up.
