Man, I WISH!!!!
As an unpublished author, with about a quarter of my novella A Diamond of the Universe now live on Royal Road, I just hope it gets picked up to make it a published story AND become an audiobook. Would be really nice...

Definitely! Plan is initially I’m going to create a free audio version that leans into “author reading his story” since I’m certainly no professional voice actor or narrator.

This is especially since I’m writing a serial which would be really expensive to get professionally done.

I'm planning on making an audio version of King of the Scaleless when I get the second draft done and polished and hand out copies to my friends. I'll be the one narrating it. I got inspired to do it when one of my friends said he listens to a lot of audiobooks while he works.

@rosemaryvictus.bsky.socialSep 12, 2026, 9:23 PM

Uhhhh...sort of? I've been experimenting with working with a voice actor on social media/author promotion stuff and fair to say...the experiment is not gonna end there.

I would love to one day release audiobooks, but I have no idea if/when I will have the time or money needed to produce them.

I’ll be extraordinarily lucky to find time to record the “listen to me read my book to you (with commentary)” series I want to make. My house is never quiet.

#PretendPanel I'm torn, because I love narrating my own books when with friends, but I also think it'd be really cool to have audiobooks done professionally.
But either way, the answer's yes! If my production quality was significantly better than it currently is, then I'd already be doing it ❤️

I already have. I had audiobooks of two of my novels made. If you're curious about the process, I had a Q&A with my narrator/engineer, who specializes in helping authors narrate their own books. So, we talked a lot about that as well as the process to make mine.

As others have said, 'plans' is a very strong word. I know I wouldn't want to record my own audiobook, which means hiring someone. I ever have a 'dream narrators' document that I tend to update when a particular actor blows me away narrating. But that's a long way off, imo.

@pjccahill.bsky.socialSep 12, 2026, 7:21 PM

I would if I could, yeah. I was trying, in fact, but I live in an apartment. After the third time I had to trash 3 hours of recording because of background noise changing that I never noticed, I threw in the towel.

And it'd cost $10,000 to get a professional to do NICEF, so uh... no.

As a reader, I find I do enjoy audiobooks, but it's rare that that is my first exposure to a story. I have difficulty sometimes with audio processing, especially if there is visual information to distract me. So a lot of my audiobook listens are books I've already read the

I do! I have theatre degrees, so I have some experience with directing, performance and audio production.

Honestly, I’m probably going to read DEAD BEATS myself.

#PretendPanel Sept 12: The Aven Cycle is available in audio, with the wonderful narrator Khristine Hvam! And I certainly hope I'll be able to sell audio rights to future projects.

@ellielieberman.bsky.socialSep 12, 2026, 5:32 PM

I'd love to turn my books into audiobooks. When I have the spoons, I might look into either the share split option of ACX & what that entails or see what it would take to maybe do them myself. Probably won't happen for a while, either way. But it is on the list!

Plans, not really. Vague dreams? 🤔

Two things I need to and theoretically can do:

1) Write a short audio script to promo Titanic Voyage and hire someone to voice it as Liam, then make a promo video

2) Book my library’s audio room for an hour or two and try to voice my short story🍕* #PretendPanel

Not only that. I plan to make a show out of “King of Blades” one day. In fact, I originally wrote it as a screenplay, which you can find here:

@justsomephil.bsky.socialSep 12, 2026, 3:55 PM

#pretendpanel I wish! Unfortunately my WIP has such a big cast I’m not sure it would work if I was reading this alone and I can’t afford a bazillion voice actors with several accents. However it might do the trick for shorter works and I do love a little bit of voice acting.

@vinegarmichael.bsky.socialSep 12, 2026, 3:54 PM

Currently attempting to anyway.

It's a project I'm still trying to get off the ground, but I'm writing, directing, and acting in an audio drama adaptation of my novella "How Do You Free a Caged Bird?"

Yes, at least for my books as @zekecaliban.bsky.social.

I have always wanted to do voice acting since I did it for some Oblivion modes in the Stone Age.

I occasionally do some for trailers or promos, and I'd love being an audiobook narrator one day.
