The hydrogen thieves sucked the life out of our sun, leaving only a disco ball in its place. The mock sun, from the neighboring system visits from time to time. It leers at us, shivering under a #mountain of heated blankets, and refuses to share any of its own warmth.

The #mountain had always been a friend: solid, unwavering, permanent. Some called it extinct. Others warned it was only sleeping.

On the day we married, dark smoke marred its peak.

By morning, the horizon was bare—flat and featureless.

There was a sparkle in her eye.
"You light me up," she said.
I smiled, our eyes met,
my soul whispered,
I’m at peace.

"Will you climb with me?" I asked.
"How high?" she replied.

"We’ll take it slowly,
never losing breath,
No mountain is too high
when you are close by."

Giant rocks reach up to the heavens like fingers clutching the ethereal beauty of the sky. Praising its majesty. Clouds encircle the tips, keeping the peaks for themselves. The loner stands at its feet, wishing to uncover the mysteries of the world.

Thoughts and longings
like #clouds above the wind,
sometimes
a gray nights storm
bringing ice and drowning
upon me and the #mountain I climb.
To think the snakes,
bobcats,
hypothermia
and vile shelter
are what hold me
when I don't have him
because he wouldn't
take my love.
