Something very fun happened recently...I came across my old files for Friends for Lonely Gods from when I was in college, including my thesis defense presentation 🥹 Want to join me for a walk down memory lane, 2021-2022?

instructions for unraveling except where it catches the light, black thread is nearly invisible in the dark. six inches have come loose. i measured them where they lay against my hand. the rest is still there. somewhere at another end you are holding.

I think 4 rejections in a morning, 3 from agents you were pretty hopeful about, is probably enough…

Feeling pretty devastated today. I’ve been toeing the line of giving up for months now. My story just doesn’t seem to have a place in publishing.

Hey there! It's us, ALC Holfelder and SB Watson!

We're reintroducing our WIP as it's new working title of Matched Magic: Smoke on the Horizon #MM:SOTH (Formerly #Cursed). Urban fantasy ft a birth divination prophecy, cursed to vanish, fancy magic, vampires, and set in #Pittsburgh.

#Writesky

A mood board for the WIP Matched Magic: Smoke on the Horizon by ALC Holfelder and SB Watson. Starting at the upper left corner: a large photo of four tarot cards with a spooky candle; there is a smaller picture of two hands with dark nails dealing tarot cards. A medium photo of a hand with fire coming out of the palm; there is a small red Aries sign. A black and white photo of the city of Pittsburgh. Beneath this photo is a picture of a female vampire with white hair and blood red lips with blood dripping from her mouth. Inset is a snippet of the definition of “evil” from the dictionary. To the left is a picture of a hand with the index finger extended and a spark of light emanating from the finger. Inset is a gold Taurus sign and two small black *. To the left there is a picture of a sword handle with a small inset of the Aries sign. In the middle is the title of the book “Matched Magic: Smoke on the Horizon. Faintly behind the words is the shadow of the skyline of Pittsburgh. End description.

Well, Ryu is already a huge baseball nut, and is trying to establish a league.

Ian would do well at something slow and methodical that requires precision, like pool or snooker.

Nico would be a great boxer... until he gets banned for stomping on his opponent's face.

Hockey in the north sehorean regions is particularly brutal for reasons no one can really nail down (residual influence from Primal Gods when aggression is gathered in one place) (1/2)

I (hand)wrote 10 pages today! Which means I'm a little over 1% of the way done with this new draft.
Wish me luck!

There are the usual games like Soccer (futbol), baseball and hockey, and basket ball. Of course magics are not allowed in most places. But some street leagues and games do allow it.

In the Sapphire Isles, there are diving competitions among the amphibious and land dwelling races that use mundane and magical means. There is a high fatality rate with some (1/2)

Sharing with #writesky 1/36 of my #ChapterReview thread on #GoodWriting. I am drilling deep to understand their words. I just feel like diving deep to extract their experience before I go stubbornly confident in writing.

As a former teenage wall puncher I feel seen, but Rich Sommer from Mad Men plays Dominic Sessa's dad and I’ve never felt more old.

Seff is great at taking care of horses, but never mentions any particular skill in riding. She's tough and determined, though, so she'd make a great endurance athlete.

#TheDragonblood: Felix isn't much of a sporty type. If they did, they'd be more of a solo player.

For real-world sports, Felix might enjoy LARP battles or archery.

Nat: *enters konami code and fills the screen with flame, but trips down a pit*

Vola: knows how to exploit i-frames but struggles on using the actual mechanics.

Nat most certainly throwing a spanner in the works by being purposely clumsy.

Vola is the one watching for the slipups in stories and using them to her advantage.
