She would never forget the #sound the angels made when they arrived, a wailing like 1,000 tornado sirens, echoing, reverberating, impossible to escape no matter how deep you hid or how you covered your ears. Later, she saw those who'd pierced their eardrums to deafen it. Still, they heard. #vss365

A dark cemetery stroll
Soft ground and fresh holes
No one's around
Nary a sound
No bones rattle
No voices of the dead
The outside air is empty
It's all in my head

In the queue is a man, tattooed and t-shirted. You imagine tracing the ink on his skin, while his hands grip your hips. The #sounds your bodies would make. His order is called, then yours. As your kids bite into their burgers, you watch him walk out, join the slipstream of strangers.

There it was again. That #sound. It wasn’t the furnace. Maybe it was the water heater—so many things in an older house.

She nudged her spouse. “What is that?”

“Huh?”

“That noise.”

“Third step from the top. Each one has its own squeak.” He closed his eyes.

“But we’re alone.” #vss365

You are the roar
of cars on highways
near my window,
not the constant
white noise I could almost
forget,
but the screeches, growls,
thunders, claps,
crashes-
you are the sounds
that break the peace

The sound of urgency was ignited when I heard Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young singing "Teach Your Children."

Paul stared up at the sky. With a #sound like tearing cloth, reality’s curtain ripped away.

The clouds were replaced by a massive room and creatures dressed in white. Not robes like angels. Lab coats.

“That one can see us,” a deep voice remarked. “Make sure he doesn’t alert the others.”

The siren began low. In the ward, the nurses paused mid‑sentence. The air soon filled with the sound of the rustle of sheets and the clink of metal trays. Anna remembered her grandmother’s words as the wail rose. They seemed to say: live honestly, even when the world is breaking.

We were so scared, we didn’t realize the lock was broken until Kerry tried the door.

How long had it been unlocked? What kind of experiment was this?

Just the #sound of it clicking had kept us prisoner.

Now, starving, thirsty, we climb the stairs, searching for a way out of this house.

ever lulled
by the #sound of your voice
a blanket of safety
a lone raft
on churning waters

a call to home

musicians
singers
have an instinctive bent
a natural affinity for #sound
tuned and bound
by harmonious tones
that soothe and surround
so in that moment
when I first heard the melody
your magical voice
I was already home
I had no choice

I'm listening
differently these days

music you gave plays
and I wonder what stories
you were telling
what places
your heart
was dwelling

was it just an easier way
for things too hard to say?

some nights
the moon
so perfect & round
but your light
has come & gone

so
I wait
for your sound
