What could be my final voyage on Scillonian III proved an exhilarating experience with superb views of Minke Whale, Risso's & Common Dolphins, Harbour Porpoise, Cory's Shearwaters, Grey Phal, Bonxie & Euro Stormie. I'll miss this old boat when it retires next month. So many fond memories #ukbirding

A male greenfinch perched on a bird feeder.

From The Wildlife Trusts -

Greenfinches are large, chunky finches that are mostly olive-green, but with a yellow patch on the wings and tail. Females are grey-green with less yellow.

First birds of my day: a squabble* of fifteen Starling whistle-squeaking from the steeple of St Barney's clock tower, despite the torrential rain.

(*My choice of collective noun for Starlings who often sound like they're squabbling.)

The last 4 days I spent 8 hours at Lower Moors #Scilly trying to photo the key features of Wilson's Snipe without it once spreading its tail or wings! So relieved that someone else managed it. A very striking monochromatic bird that convinced straight away. ID notes in alt #ukbirding #birds

Wilson's Snipe, Lower Moors, Scilly - 06/10. Note strong and dense barring on flanks with no buff ground colour. The grey centred covert and tertial feathers with whitish tipped coverts were very distinctive.Wilson's Snipe, Lower Moors, Scilly - 04/10. Scapulars and crown feathers very black and uniform with very few paler edges. Narrow crown stripe and whitish braces contrasting very strongly with background, rather like Jack Snipe.Wilson's Snipe, Lower Moors, Scilly - 03/10. we arrived in the ISBG hide 15 minutes after the bird was found. This was taken from Hilda Quick hide. On the underparts the buff colouration is limited to the neck and up onto the headLower Moors, Scilly - 04/10. The bird that some thought was the Wilson's but was actually Common Snipe. This photos shows some key differences - particularly covert, tertial and scapular ground colour and pattern, flanks, and head pattern

Good Morning Blusky Folks!

My First Capture features a beautiful Eurasian jay that I Saw on Friday
It was Captured on my Canon EOS R50!

#Birds🪶 #NaturePhotography #PhotographersOfBlueSky #NatureLover #UKBirding #Heron #WildlifePhotograph

This photo shows a Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius) standing on a grassy lawn in profile, facing toward the left.
Plumage Details: The jay has smooth pinkish-brown body feathers, a dark bill with a prominent black "mustache" stripe extending from the base, and fine dark streaking across its pale crown.
Wing Accent: Its most vivid feature is the bright electric-blue wing panel marked with fine black cross-barring, contrasted against black primary feathers and a white wing patch.
Setting & Lighting: The bird stands among green grass blades mixed with scattered dry leaves, illuminated by natural daylight with a soft, bright green background.
