The Olympian Thunderbolts which are a really good football team, though the soccer team is more like the Olympian Owls (based on Athena).

There is also surfing, which is a big plus since they're living on an island that has a pretty big beach.

Plus, other athletics.

#septopolis lmao absolutely not 😂 (though their old municipal baseball team wasn't half bad) however, watching professional sports (esp football) is still a common interest. However, skiing and hiking are both big for residents and they, too, have a burgeoning pickleball and pub trivia scene.

Zhaaz sets up gladiator games on a semi-regular basis. It's quite amicable and not fought to the death. Mostly.

Other pastimes include theatre and concerts, which lamias are big fans of, and games like chess. Shent, an Empire-based strategy game, is widely popular.

Of all the most popular pasttimes in Zagnat, only a select few do NOT involve teams or rivalries. Duels, arena fights, tchcasumz competitions (a little bit like rap battles--everyone's got their favorite duo!), the works.

From there, a few ski lodges & farms each have a couple dozen employees, but it's mostly small businesses w/ a handful

I couldn't care less about sports, so this didn't even occur to me until now.

I was a theatre kid, so I'll say that's where the overall pastimes go - performances. Music, poetry reading, drama, that sort of thing.

"The children yearn for the mines!" No, not really - they don't use children in the mines. But mining, and the associated industries, are foundational to Anssen, so one way or another, you have work because the mines are working.

Mining is a huge industry, so they export whatever minerals and materials they don't use for themselves. They extract a lot of gems as well, which are by default the property of the Royals, who control their export jealously so as to keep prices high.

And in hand to hand sports, anyone deemed to be brutalizing an opponent beyond what is acceptable is banned and can even be tried in a court of law for undue assault.

There are other sports, I just haven’t worldbuilt them yet. Should probably get on that.

The biggest sport in the Tower Coty is Competitive Dueling. There’s different leagues for different forms of martial arts, and mostly popular because it’s a year round.

While yeah, the point is some bloodsport, there is an institutional focus on artful fights. Weapon fights are to touch

There is no formal education system in Anssen, at least not for most people. The wealthy kids get tutors and are usually educated in the kinds of things that will help them with their social and political standing someday. History, languages, politics, that sort of thing.
