#OTD in 2006 I was supposed to be seeing @moeperiod.bsky.social on a spooky Friday the 13th in Buffalo. Unlucky and massive OCTOBER snow storm caused the show to be postponed and rescheduled to Feb 7, 2007 😢

WWII forced Yves Montand (born #OTD in 1921) to work in French shipyards where he sang for co-workers. This started a successful career despite the horrors and prohibitions around him but camp photos affected him so much that he became reclusive.

Für historische Wahrheit Lippstadt, 12. Oktober (DPD) Gegen Dr. Adenauer, der sich kürzlich in einer Rede mit der kritischen Zeit des Jahres 1932 beschäftigt hatte, wandte sich auf einer SPD- Kundgebung in Lippstadt der damalige preußische Innenminister Severing. Er wisse nicht, sagte er, ob Dr. Adenauer damals den preußischen Ministerpräsidenten Braun aufgesucht habe. Notwendig sei dies nicht gewesen, da der Kampf gegen von Papen und sein „Kabinett der Barone" von der Sozialdemokratie besonders klar geführt worden sei. Was Adenauer über ihn selbst gesagt habe, bezeichnete Severing als Wort für Wort unrichtig. Die damalige Zentrumspartei habe schon vor dem 20. Juli 1932 versucht, die sozialdemokratischen Minister zur Aufgabe ihrer Aemter zu bewegen, um mit den Nationalsozialisten verhandeln zu können. Nur die durch den Sturz Brünings verschärfte politische Situation und später die hessischen Landtagswahlen hätten diese Aktion des Zentrums unterbrochen. Die deutsche Not solle das Wiedererstehen des elenden Parteizanks nicht zulassen, betonte Severing; mit Politikern aber, die geflissentlich die historische Wahrheit fälschten, sei eine Verständigung sehr schwer, denn sie machten sich damit bündnisunfähig.

Frankie Hayes was born #OTD in 1914. He hit .293 with 12 HRs and 52 RBIs for the 1935 #Bisons. Went on to be a six-time A.L. All-Star. Holds MLB consecutive games record for a catcher, appearing in an incredible 312 straight games from 1943 to 1946.
