& she freed her sanguine soul
to soar beyond

Bigger is better
Biggest is best
It's a holdover from our childhood dominion
When parents looked down at us
And we looked up to them
He may have loved us
In his own way
But
When she came riding out
Riding around
Driving six white horses
Under her love
There is no greater mountain

Once it was a #mountain,
imperious and fine.
Since topped and humbled
by rivers, wind, and time.

Then it was a boulder
solid, stubborn, dense
tumbled by a glacier &
brought, reduced, hence.

Now it is a sitting-stone:
here I perch and play.
And we dream together of
how every peak decays.

On that planet, the mountain tries to actively throw off any being it can feel climbing it.
As far as you can tell, it feels everything.
It's the planet you find yourself most content to wake up on, knowing the collective climbing culture may fade without easy gilding.

I wrote a stanza
about a cold mountain
to sound
properly poetic.

The system flagged it
as "statistically remote."

Apparently
nobody talks about mountains
unless they're selling coats.

So I erased the peak
and put the top
back on the pen.
