As Violet points out at the end of this thread, this often stands in contrast with people who are actually awful, whose story generally becomes reframed as one of redemption, and "haven't they suffered enough?" without actually atoning (looking at #MeToo here)

In 1988, Jodie Foster played the title victim in a movie about a woman being gang raped, and fighting for justice. After the #MeToo movement, the #Epstein Files debacle, and the #Cornell7, it is acutely shameful that this country, the USA, still protects rapists.

Maybe there are other problems. This is just one of a series of sex abuse/discrimination lawsuits over the past decade, many of which have origins in practices from long before #MeToo.

I read a thread today from a very brave and bright, woman.
Recently I have been processing a sexual assault 40 years ago. I was with colleagues. I blamed myself because that’s what women do.
I know the symptoms of date rape drugs, and still I blamed myself. I’m a paramedic, they were too. #metoo
