I don't write big. Long, not big, heh.

I'm not going to write a save-the-world, but I might write a save-that-guy.

Or a disabled vampire working night shift security in an office building. I sold that one, I was rather pleased and surprised that I managed to sell a vampire story. :}

#SFFChat The thing is this kind of question gets prescriptive really fast if answered as is. I can answer what was foundational for _me_ but I didn't read everything that was considered foundational at the time (or I read it and didn't consider it so for me, like Asimov).

I approach all stories as being about some amount of strange people in unfamiliar situations, and I write things where the strange and unfamiliar is in some way fantastical.

Subgenres, heh....

I think for fantasy, the biggest question I ask myself is "What makes this world different from our own? What fantastical elements does it use?" There are certain things associated with fantasy that, if they don't appear in the story, it makes it hard for me to associate it with the genre.

I need some level of humor in SFF. It helps me understand the character(s) more, especially if they're able to joke about a dangerous situation they're in.

I don't think I have a favorite or least favorite approach. I'm *usually* able to laugh at anything.
