It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.…
The Charles Dickens pub, in Broadstairs, Kent, on a glorious early autumn morning before the customers arrive.

The green-painted Charles Dickens pub bathed in early morning sun against a clear blue sky on an autumn morning. Later this area will be full of drinkers and Seasiders. This is Broadstairs, prime Dickens territory on the Kent coast, where the author spent much time and wrote many of his works, immortalsing the town as Our English Watering Place in his 1851 book of that name.
The small seaside town now stages a festival each summer in his honour with people dressed in period costume.

A ripe pear hangs from a branch below green leaves against a pale blue sky with small drifting white cloud above an urban roof. The garden is still full of greenery and, in the foreground, to the left, the exotic leaves of a Fatsia spread out fingerlike among the more familiar European neighbours.

Pink petals of a Cosmos flower spread out underneath a common Carder Bee. The insects wings are spread wide, showing the delicate, veined texture of the gossamer structure, while its buff and black fuzzy striped abdomen looks almost as if it has been brushed into a quiff.

The Frangipani tree has a scented flower used in Polynesian lei making, yet the plant is actually endemic to tropical Latin America.

Color close up image of a pink and orange open flower. The plumeria, or frangipani, is most often seen in warm and tropical areas of the globe. One can make new plumeria trees from solitary cuttings; the one shown is a cutting taken many years ago from my grandparents’ home.

Ain't No Mountain High Enough

sassolungo from a meadow in val gardena. one big wall of rock standing over a field of grass. shot on the gsw690. #EastCoastKin #Photography #ClassicMono #LandscapePhotography #Fuji #Filmisnotdead #PhotographersofBlueSky #PhotographersUnited #MountainMonday

A black and white photograph of a pale limestone massif standing over an alpine meadow. The mountain is a broad, flat-topped wall of vertical cliffs and fluted gullies, lit brightly from the side so the rock glows against a clear, pale sky. A dark band of spruce and larch forest runs across the right half of the frame and climbs into the upper right corner in tall, dense, nearly black silhouettes. At the left, a forested hill carries a small building on its crest. Across the entire lower half, a close-cropped meadow of short grass fills the foreground in fine, textured detail, with a few long shadows lying across the right edge. Film grain is visible throughout.

The frame is built in horizontal bands, with meadow at the bottom, then dark forest, then bright rock, then empty sky, and the brightest tone sits at the top of the stack while the darkest sits just beneath it. That separation makes the cliff read as a luminous mass. The wide expanse of grass slows the eye on its way up and gives the wall its distance. It is a quiet, almost documentary view of a famous peak, seen from ground level.
