ARROGANT MOUNTAIN

There’s a #mountain between us,
Riddled with goats
And pretentious monks.
Prayer flags snap in cruel winds,
An old tent reeks
(‘Cos that’s where the yaks
Like to take a dump.)
There’s a mountain between us,
And we celebrate its reality
With sad songs.

After I stole the #mountain troll’s immortality, the endless centuries changed my perception of time. People were born and died as quickly as mayflies. Entire cultures crumbled into dust before my eyes.

Finally, the sun blew out like a candle. Somewhere in the darkness, the troll laughed.

What the maps call the #mountain is a knee. The range beyond is the shin, under ice, and the plain the city stands on is the thigh. Nobody has gone north far enough to find the rest. It lies on its side. Each spring the snow slides off earlier, the way a blanket slips when a sleeper shifts. #vss365

‘Oh, yeah. It’s my favorite thing in the whole world.’

‘Do you want to go with me on a strenuous hike up the #mountain?’

‘Hmmm. I’m not so sure about that.’

‘Well then, what kind of exercise do you like doing?’

‘I prefer diddley squats.’

I had nowhere to go but where they wanted me to be.

I had no problem leaving the Flatlands behind - I prefer my horizons high: Valkenburg, the only mountain, is really a hilll. A castle was built; burnt; built up again; it fell over ... a Python sketch; a molehill in a swamp.

And suddenly it was all back—
all at once.
Like a mountain’s view
that’s just to die for
Like a warm blanket
choking me to death
Like a sweet liquor’s
sleepy escape...
My words are back
And so are You.
Let’s settle in

Weeping branches arch into an almost ground-kissing waterfall curtain of blossoms. Series and veils of balletic arms begin weaving breath of silk spun by dancing winds. A bed of fawn green clay lies luxurious, contained oyster-like by ripe olive earth descended from #mountain river deposits. #vss365

Relika scrunched her nose as she observed the motion tracker, watching as the little screen burst into life with #activity.
A pity, she thought as she looked over her shoulder at the #mountain of bodies.
If the tracker hadn't been so delayed the soldiers would have seen her coming.
