Crows fight, possibly to the death, in the drab mud at the edge of a lagoon. Light glints off a beak and wing, but the birds' plumage negates much of what light there is this murky morning, and they seem almost like figures cut from some dark metal. The lagoon's water throws back their abstracted images in a little more color.

Tufted ducks can dive over six metres down to feed on mussels and snails. They often share lakes with diving pochards, nicking food that drifts up when the pochards dig it out.

Was out this spring with a fast birder this spring. It was nearly noon and he was more than ready to leave. But I’m glad I stayed. The lighting wasn’t perfect, but the moment was magical
