Long abandoned, the amphitheatres of the Marsyn people of Exoplanet 35824 were unique. As an aquatic race, they were built in shallow water. Only the tip of the centre stage was above the water.

This is a photo of a plant. I don’t know how to describe it. There is a centre that resembles a tower or more like a circus tent. But all of this is in a dull dead gray as the plant is dead. Around the circus tent are reeds or thin leaves or petals (still in gray) and they surround it like they are protecting it. Around the outside are the large sections of the pod that once covered this whole thing and they are pealed back and have tiny hairs on them. That makes sense, right? Anyway, it’s on a foreign planet.

Dahlia ‘Fire and Ice Lemon’ has white petals streaked with bright lemon-yellow and an orange-yellow center like a sunburst. While treated as a perennial in frost-free regions, its tubers need to be dug up and stored or heavily mulched in colder climates #BloomScrolling #Flowers #Autumn #Garden

The flower in the image is a Dahlia ‘Fire and Ice Lemon’ (also known as Lemon Fire & Ice), featuring distinctive white petals streaked with bright lemon-yellow and a prominent orange-yellow center.

Good Morning Bluesky Folks!

While visiting Dyrham Park, I spotted a beautiful purple sea lavender (Limonium sinuatum) plant growing in the gardens. I captured it on my Canon EOS R50!

This image shows a close-up, vertical shot of annual statice (Limonium sinuatum) growing outdoors in sunlight.
Key Details:
Flowers: Dense, paper-like clusters of vivid, deep purple calyces topped with tiny white corollas (petals) blooming at the center of the individual flower heads.
Stems & Leaves: Bright green, winged, and slightly ruffled stems and foliage supporting the erect flowering stalks.
Lighting & Background: Bright, natural sunlight illuminates the flowers from the side, casting gentle shadows and blurring the natural background of foliage and soil (bokeh effect).

The image shows a Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) with its signature jaw-like snapping traps on top, and a sundew (Drosera species) covered in sticky, glandular tentacles on the bottom.

Key Care Tips for Carnivorous Plants

• Water: Use only distilled water, reverse osmosis (RO) water, or collected rainwater. Tap water contains minerals that will kill these plants over time. Keep the soil consistently moist (often by placing the pot in a shallow tray of water).
• Soil: Plant them in a nutrient-poor medium like a 50/50 mix of peat moss and perlite. Never use standard potting soil or Miracle-Gro, as fertilizers will burn their roots.
• Light: They need full, direct sunlight (at least 6 hours a day) or a strong grow light to stay healthy and develop deep red color inside their traps.
• Feeding: Do not fertilize the soil. They catch their own bugs, or you can occasionally feed them a tiny live or thawed frozen insect (like a small flightless fruit fly) only if they are grown outdoors.
