A black and white photo a woman, shielding her eyes from the sun. Her head and shoulders are lit by the sun, but the rest of her is in shadow. There is a man’s head visible behind her, in profile and to the left of her is a man’s tattooed arm, pointing. Three figures in the foreground are out of focus and in shadow.

Photo taken on The High Street.

Morning #BlueSky & welcome to Selsey on the West Sussex coast in the U.K. to ease you into the new week. Have a beautiful day my friends 😌 #ECK #BlueSkyMonday #WindMill

Our photograph captures a striking old brick windmill in Selsey, West Sussex, during the late afternoon of a winter’s walk.

Viewed from below, the windmill rises majestically against a deep, vivid blue sky, its towering structure creating a wonderful contrast between warm, earthy colours and the cool tones of the evening sky.

The windmill’s broad, tapering tower is built from weathered red and brown bricks, glowing with rich orange and copper tones where the low winter sunlight falls across its surface.

Near the top, the brickwork gives way to a dark, aged metal cap, crowned by a small, angular wooden structure.

Two arched windows sit one above the other in the brickwork, their pale frames catching the sunlight and adding character to the old building.

Above, the windmill’s enormous white sails stretch dramatically across the sky. One rises almost vertically beyond the top of the photograph, while another sweeps diagonally towards the right-hand edge, its delicate framework outlined brilliantly against the blue.

Wisps of soft cloud drift behind the sails, adding texture to the otherwise clear sky.
At the foot of the windmill, a few modest buildings sit quietly in the shadows, hinting at the surrounding village.

The low sun illuminates the brickwork beautifully, with that fleeting golden moment when a winter afternoon begins to surrender to dusk.

There is something timeless about this scene.

An enduring piece of history standing proudly beneath an expansive sky, seemingly untouched by the passing years.

Captured during a peaceful winter’s walk, the photograph celebrates the beauty of old architecture, the warmth of fading sunlight, and the quiet pleasure of discovering something extraordinary in an ordinary moment.

Finally, our picture is finished with a simple white border frame.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.…
The Charles Dickens pub, in Broadstairs, Kent, on a glorious early autumn morning before the customers arrive.

The green-painted Charles Dickens pub bathed in early morning sun against a clear blue sky on an autumn morning. Later this area will be full of drinkers and Seasiders. This is Broadstairs, prime Dickens territory on the Kent coast, where the author spent much time and wrote many of his works, immortalsing the town as Our English Watering Place in his 1851 book of that name.
The small seaside town now stages a festival each summer in his honour with people dressed in period costume.
