More ghost pipe for your viewing pleasure. #nativeplants 🌿

A cluster of ghost pipes poking out of fallen pine needles and ferns. The bell-shaped flowers and stems are pure white.

A series of flowers currently blooming in or adjacent to my yard

Clockwise top left: an aster with lavender-blue rays grows against a weathered fence; a section of flat-topped white aster is planted in front of a ninebark (shrub); a dense spire of spiky pale pink flower, which interestingly is a purple giant hyssop, is planted near the above-mentioned white aster; another type of bluish asters (the nursery tags may have been mixed up; one is heart leaf aster and the other is smooth blue aster, but I haven't had a chance to look into it); and across from my house, a dense patch of goldenrod (type unknown) grows alongside what looks like white panicled asters

A plant to plant, not a plant to dose. Cha bhris am freumh — the root does not break.

What's the one you'd put in the ground knowing you won't see it finished?

My accidental asters (popped up in the one place I didn't seed them) are absolutely humming with pollinators today.

Got my lavender trimmed and removed all the poison ivy the birds keep helpfully planting under the maple tree. Also fought the ants for some raspberries.

A truly glorious cloudless sapphire sky with a beam of sunshine spiking down from above toward a mound of purple asters.

What’s Blooming in SoCal?
Coyote brush (Baccharis pilularis) in the aster family, a great plant for fall blooms that help pollinators during a season with few flowers. The seeds are dispersed by wind & are abundant so clean up if you don’t want a million of them. Tolerable of anything. #nativePlants

Halictid bee on grass-leaved goldenrod, Euthamia graminifolia. A very lovely perennial that was previously considered a true goldenrod, Solidago sp. It has an incredibly large native range, covering most of North America. They have a preference for moist soils, but are adaptable. #nativeplants

A heritage-listed boab from the 1880s was slowly dying in a Darwin car park. The new building was shaped so it never shades the tree. It's flourishing now. This episode of Gardening Australia is full of decisions like that.
