During the summer months, the place where I spend many hours walking, and looking for flying insects, is in our city parks. It is a favourite #3rdPlace for me (not home or at work). Here is a monarch butterfly, taken in a local park.

One of my favorite places is the Runge Nature Center in Jefferson City, MO. This iconic tree has been a long-time friend along a prairie trail there. It had been declining for years and, sadly, has been cut down recently.

Since I was 8, my #3rdPlace has been libraries: cozy, reassuring, filled with new things to learn. If there are books, I feel at home.

This hiking location might be my 3rd favorite place to hike. After rain, there is a small waterfall and pool, as well as a bench to sit on to enjoy.

A huge, multi-trunk oak tree spreads its long branches out over the hiking trail. The twisted and curved branched are visible throughout the image, with one coming right towards the camera, so it is up close in the upper right corner. There are a lot of fallen brown leaves on the ground, and plants that are still green. Twisted and tangled roots of the tree wrap around rocks and through the ground. After rain, the rocks form a small waterfall, and the area with all the brown leaves is a pool. To my left (not visible) is a wooden bench to sit on and relax. A boardwalk (not visible) goes past this spot and serves as a bridge when water is present. Different colored lichen grow on the trunk, particularly one that is an aqua color. I love this spot. 'W' (for Wednesday) Trail in the Irish Hills of San Luis Obispo, California.
