@emory-f8.bsky.socialKoresh died in 1908.
Some followers believed that Teed would be physically resurrected. Rather than immediately burying him, they kept his body while waiting for his return to life.
It did not resurrect.
@emory-f8.bsky.socialThey did not believe there was a hidden civilization beneath humanity’s feet.
They believed humanity itself was already inside the hollow Earth.
Koreshans did not consider Cellular Cosmogony a matter of religious faith. They believed it could be scientifically proven.
@emory-f8.bsky.socialInstead, it was a gigantic hollow sphere, or “cell,” and humanity lived on its concave inner surface.
When people looked upward at the sky, they were actually looking toward the center of this enormous sphere.
@emory-f8.bsky.socialAmong the cult's most extraordinary teachings was Cellular Cosmogony.
According to the Koreshans, the conventional understanding of Earth was completely backward.
Earth was not a solid globe traveling through an enormous universe.
@emory-f8.bsky.socialHe later adopted the name Koresh, a Hebrew form of Cyrus, and gathered followers around a religious system that combined Christianity, mysticism, communal living, ideas about reincarnation, and what he presented as scientific knowledge.
@emory-f8.bsky.socialDid you know?
In the Victorian era, an American religious community believed humanity was living on the inside surface of the Earth?
The Koreshan Unity, founded by Cyrus Teed, taught one of the strangest cosmological systems to emerge during the nineteenth century.
