#StetChat This is such a smart solution. I've been thinking of things to add to my website, and a walkthrough like this would be a good idea. Especially because authors get so attached to their ideas of a cover, but they're almost always wrong about what will sell.
A6: I'm not sure. My day job used to be in a cover art department for a big trade publisher. I think I'd try to draw on that experience to give them some feedback. But that should probably be a different service than the editorial stuff. #StetChat
Ooh, a new Q hashtag 😁

A4: I rarely do coaching, but a few years back I worked with a client who was doing her first nonfiction book. I was like the fourth person she'd worked with (I should have noped out, but there were Reasons). She'd make progress, stall, and start from scratch. Over and over.
That's the best way to do it!

A5: I'd say that to the person who sent me the ms. and see what they wanted to do. #StetChat

I'd say I don't offer that service. I might refer them if they seem clueless rather than unwilling to put in the work. Otherwise, I'd contact whoever I might refer before mentioning them to see if they're willing to take on a client who doesn't look at their potential editor's website.
This was my first time doing a live chat on Bluesky in a while. I kept selecting the #StetChat hashtag and choosing Latest so I could read it all.

A3: I would be very disappointed but then go back to them and ask them in a non-confrontational way whether they used AI and why. #StetChat

A2: It depends on why I told them I wasn't a good fit. If it was that I didn't have the subject area expertise that they wanted, I'd just tell them that up front. #StetChat
Yes, it's always good to start out polite. With an option to escalate if needed!
