Culture and history are always tricky topics for my story setting - the world has been under the control of The Mayor for *centuries*, giving It the power to shape human creativity and expression.

... and yet, It rarely does. At least not directly.

Because the City of Gates is often full of tourists who need to kill a few hours as they pass through on their journey, shows are very popular.

There are a lot of little theatres that line the main street, trying to lure in tourists. Usually with short and dramatic works. 🧵

For the #Septopolis crew, my child saw a mold for skull ice cubes and was disappointed it wasn't for cookies.

But for some reason, I had another use in mind. 😅 Pretty successful experiment!

#Septopolis 23:

Wertham has some truly impressive museums, art galleries and concert venues, but I want to focus on the Cabiria, Midtown's last surviving indie theater. My MC's roommate works there and it's a lovely old place, despite the bizarre three-eyed monster statue holding up the marquee.

A frame from the epic historical fantasy silent movie Cabiria (1914) depicting the entrance to the Temple of Melech, a monstrous horned creature whose mouth doubles as a door.

So sports are big in Alkesh. Within the city itself Hockey is a big deal. Football (american) and Baseball are more popular down in NDB and the eastern cities of Sehore. But in Alkesh (1/?)

All caught up, finally! 😅

The people of Capria are extremely artistic, and paintings cover the walls all around the city. They don't really have museums, but there are definitely theaters! These are open-air stages where popular plays, especially comedies,

I feel like wrestling and boxing would be most popular in Capria, and they could both get pretty brutal thanks to the rapid healing abilities of the demons.

Sorry I don't have any more clever ideas for this atm 😅 Maybe I'll think of something later...

I don't know if this is a good answer, but if we're talking the biggest "employer" in Capria, then it's Julius himself, and the job is being part of his militia 😬

This involves things like protecting the resources, inspecting travelers, enforcing the law...

I'd say the main exports are 1) goat cheese & other goat products, and 2) weapons & tech.

Julius & Co have A LOT of stuff stolen from raids on Arx Lucis excursions or looted from the lucium mine, as well as stuff from the old governors who were bribed

Medical isn't a huge concern, since the citizens of Capria are legally required to be bonded with a demon, which comes with rapid healing ability. However, in cases where someone gets hurt/sick while waiting for a demon bond, or if they get injured so badly

Alright, one at a time:

- Water mainly comes from the river that flows down from the mountains through the canyon where Capria is built. However, thanks to the climate apocalypse caused by Arx Lucis's exploitation, the river goes through dry periods...

Capria isn't that big, so you can get around the whole city by walking or scooter (sounds dorky but it's convenient 😂). A lot of people own their own scooters, but there are many available for public use too. There are also lifts between the city levels,

SO. Imagine the Kowloon Walled City, but inside the Grand Canyon, and you got the general idea of Capria.

In terms of land space, including parts but inside the cliffs, it's only about 9.5 acres. But it houses about 37,000 people, densely packed together.

In Terra Tenebrae, they celebrate "The Week of the Forsaken," a week-long celebration that sounds dire but is actually very joyful. It's a celebration of life for those who've been condemned by El, in which they give gifts & practice "paying it forward"

So I'm still a little fuzzy on clothes, though my idea for Terra Tenebrae in general is "Mad Max vibes" (see my girl Serena here).

In Capria specifically, I think they'd be famous for being extra over-the-top in their self-expression & exhibitionism.

Colored digital drawing by me of Serena Ryse from CHARAGMA. She is a tall trans woman with a sleeveless shirt and blue jacket showing off her muscular arms, a dark green scarf, elaborate leather belt and corset kinda thing and arm bracers, carrying a pack slung over her shoulder and a staff. She has tan skin, shoulder length dark red hair tied up in a half bun and dyed cyan blue at the tips, a wide angular chin, several piercings and glowing ice blue eyes.

Alkesh is host to a lot of heritage museums. Usuall preserving or displaying the history, culture and art of First Nation, Orcish, or Dwarvish history. All museums are typically private (1/?)

The most important museum is the Elaina Nesji. The Many Pillars of the Respected Ones. The Hall of Heroes. It acts as a memorial to mer that have performed great deeds throughout their history. The first war generals and house founders and the like. Statues and stories of their deeds.

If you're looking for culture, the Loins of Tekmal-ibai are where you should be looking! The Loins house institutions such as theaters, art galleries, and workshops.

However, as Zagnat looks into the past for its identity, the crown jewel of the Loins district is the King's Museum.

#Septopolis So these cultural touchstones aren't really developed yet in Orlum. Instead, most art belongs to the streets.

Borealins at prayer are an art unto themselves: they leap and whirl in brightly-coloured robes, dancing to raucous music.
