They said it couldn’t happen here
now your future is a boot heel on your neck
choking off your dreams of freedom
they don’t keep their fascist dreams hidden, kid
making excuses for missing fascists in plain sight
smiling behind blue suits and lies as they steal your rights

Even our past heartaches
are trapped in a recycled daze
Another fresh take on dead ideas and you call
that progress

These are rerun days.
Trapped in a recycled daze
Only the names and faces change

This is the state of our disunion
A notice of dissolution.
Failures of communication

Embracing fantasies and easy lies
instead of hard solutions
until it’s too late to heal all the
heartbreak.

Complaining about the cost of eggs and gas…
A bitter memory as they deport your family and send you to concentration camp
ignorance won’t save you
in the face of fascism
as you clung so desperately to your racism
They said it couldn’t happen here
