Fossilized tree stump at Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah - one of several such documented by paleontologist Charles Sternberg during his exploration of the area in 1921. Being here is like walking through an open-air natural history museum.

The Acoma Pueblo is known as Sky City because it is built on top of a mesa. Acoma and the Taos Pueblo have competing claims as to which is the oldest continually inhabited town in the US.

There is a plain door in the center of the building, and there is a small square window above the door. Except for the openings in the bell towers there are no other windows visible giving the building a stark appearance. There is a wall extending from the right front of the building that obscures the bottom half of that side of the building. The foreground is filled by the roof of a low building. The middle of the image is a row of low buildings on a street with a couple of cars parked by the buildings. The buildings are dwarfed by the church. Down the left side of the picture the edge of the mesa and the desert landscape beyond it are visible. The sky is dotted with cumulus clouds.

It took about 40 minutes because the protocol requires special envelopes, witnesses, signatures. #NewMexico has a very secure system.⚖️
