Just got the confirmation date of my SVP poster presentation. Come see me on Wednesday (11/11) as I talk about spinosaurids in comparison to other theropods and extant archosaurs. #FossilFriday #Spinosaurus #Dinosaurs #Paleontology

This week for #Fossilfriday we have another #Guess that #Lego #Fossil.

This one I would rate as medium. This close relative of marsupial is known from South America.

Reply your guesses and I will post the answer tomorrow.

This was designed by MrMattBricks.

I found out my paper on Dinodontosaurus was provisionally accepted two days before Spencer’s post, and 6 days after it I got the official acceptance

Few #FossilFriday posts have been such a timely surprise

The public museum is getting some attention now but behind the scenes museums are active centers of science and learning. Collections are real, primary data and are irreplaceable archives of ecology, past climate, and biodiversity. Support #museums !

For #FossilFriday you are getting something special. Part of the original Dryptosaurus aquilunguis jawbone. First described as Laelaps by Edward Drinker Cope and renamed by his rival Othniel Charles Marsh after it was discovered a mite already named that. Note the tooth! Academy of Natural Sciences

A part of an old fossilized skull, Dryptosaurus aquilunguis. Most of the jawline is damaged but a single tooth shows signs of still developing. It likely would have taken the place of an older tooth. Signs such as this tooth show that the animal in question was a predator. Found in New Jersey, Dryptosaurus aquilunguis was one of the first carnivorous dinosaurs to be discovered and it was originally postulated as being the predator of Hadrosaurus foulkii. Originally known as “Laelaps”, Dryptosaurus was an impressive beast getting between 25-30 feet (7.62 - 9 meters) and likely did eat whatever it could catch, overpower, or scavenge. The lovely Ned Gilmore holds the fossil for the photo. Taken at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University

#FossilFriday During #WWII, paleontologist Julia Anna Gardner became the leader of a group known as “The Dungeon Gang” that provided strategic information through analyses of maps, & aerial photographs to the Armed Forces. ⚒️🧪🔬

One of the wildest things I've learned recently! As an avowed Devonian fan I'm surprised I never encountered this guy before #FossilFriday #sciart

Fossil ray tooth plate pieces, collected in Florida last weekend. #FossilFriday

A variety of fragments of fossils in a glass bowl. Typical size is 1 cm long, and the are distinguished by having serrations like that of escalator stairs.

Continuing #FossilFriday with another critter that biomineralized a #calcite exoskeleton (vote! It's too close!) ... here we have a couple spiriferid brachiopods. 🧪⚒️

This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Homotherium

In 1826, Reverend John MacEnery found Pleistocene aged canine teeth in a cave near Devon.

In 1846, Richard Owen described those first fossils as Machairodus latidens,

Happy #FossilFriday from this random ceratopsian skull bone that I found last time I was doing fieldwork in Montana

This is an articular, and it shoes th very well defined hinge area where it connects the rest if the lower jaw onto the top part of the skull.🧪

A yellow-brown dinosaur bone in a curatorial hand. It has an oblong patch on the right that was once covered in cartilage for the jaw joint
